oil pump question?
hey guys how are you good I want to know how you can tell which oil and water pump belong to which b-series I been searching but cant find it let me kno thanks
I don't know all the ins and outs for all years. As for oil pumps, all 96 and newer are the same vtec or LS. As for earlier years, some had CPS, crank positioning sensor, some not. Earlier model LS and VTEC oil pumps were different.
Also there was a post where someone took the different oil pumps apart and claimed the only difference was a washer at the oil control spring. That must be one expensive washer because the price difference was like $50 between pumps.
I have a 92 RS, and I will be going with a newer 96 and up oil pump. The lower cover might need trimming because of the CPS provision. But it is a better pump and much cheaper than the OEM 92 model pump.
Also remember, if you use a vtec water pump, use a vtec timing belt, and likewise with the LS water pump, use an LS timing belt. I hope all of this is correct, if not, someone bitch slap me and correct it.
