oil light issue
Hi, i just changed my oil and oil filter recently, but now my oil lamps turns on right when i start the car, but 2 seconds later it turns off. However if i turn on the car again, the light stays off. Light only comes on if i havnt started the car for a few hours. Check the dip stick, and oil is a lil above 2nd dot. And im quite sure thats enough oil.... well is it? Well if any one got an idea, any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

the oil light is suppose to go on until the engine is started then it turns off.
the second hole on the dip stick is when the oil has expanded; so in other words that should be the maximum(engine warm up). cold should be in between the two holes on the dip stick.

That's normal!!! when the engine is cold(in the morning) the oil light stay on for a few second than turn off. when it already warm, it won't turn on when start. Only worry when the oil light stays on when you are driving. If that happen turn off the engine ASAP and tow it back to an auto shop.

When I check the oil on my car either warm or cold motor the oil is always above the top hole not in between

so then it's not at different levels when hot or cold?

Nope its only at different levels when theres oil missing in the motor

that is wrong, oil will expand due to heat(thining out.)

So that means that you only check the oil when the car is warm...makes no sense

oil shouldnt expand that much. most times it should be right bellow the full line, then at or alittle above the fill line warm. though different oils expand differently, but you should always check it when warmed.
if you have a oil pressure gauge you would notice when the engine is cold the pressure is low cause the oil isnt moving very fast. once it warms up the pressure moves to normal.

the most accurate way to check the oil level is to wait 5mins after the can has been driven.
oil will thin out depends on what grade of oil is being used. 5w-30 for example 5w means the particular oil passes the minium 5w (weight) oil requirement at start up and it then thins out to the 30 weight at a set range of temperature.
oil pressure is the highest when the engine is first started since the oil pump is pumping the oil to all crevices,cams/cylinder walls/crank/.
imagin putting one finger over an open hose, the pressure is greater to push the water out.

And yes, the oil light turning on when starting your car is normal.
