You probably spun a bearing or four from lack of oil pressure.

They're wrong. There shouldn't be oil on the dipstick above the marks that measure the oil level.

Your posts are confusing. If the oil is full, that means there is oil on the end of the dipstick, up to somewhere in between the two marks. If there is no oil on the dipstick at all, then the oil is not full.

Oh wow. Just wow. The car warned you and you didn't listen.

If the oil light comes on, it means there is either a drop or severe fluctuation with OIL PRESSURE AND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH OIL LEVEL. I hate when people say the oil is low!!!!! I DO know DAs can have the oil pressure sending unit go bad, and in my old one the ICU had problems and my oil light was on all the time. However if I had bad oil pressure I would not have driven 20k miles with the light on. (Changed out ICU and it turned off). When that light comes on you get the expletive off the road and do NOT drive the car...get the pressure checked ASAP!!!!

Get the car home, take the motor out, disassemble it, buy a new oil pump(gsr or typer) take the crank and rods to a machine shop, if they need to be over sized they'll do it and give you the bearings needed. you'll have a fresh micro polished crank, new bearings, oil pump, fresh rod journals and i suggest you go ahead and change the piston rings while your at it. you'll have a fresh block(0 miles on all moving parts on the block). the motor should last you forever if you take care of it and of course do it right..don't forget to break it in. good luck.

oil pump=120
machine shop work= 85-95 bucks including all the bearings
piston rings=65
head gasket=80
$350 for everything

I pulled off my oil pan today and there were some metal shavings in the oil pan and pick up tube. Where could those shavings come from? Should I just start saving for new motor?

sounds like a spun bearing same thing happened to me, I opted to rebuild mine. DO what ctreg6 says. if you keep driving youll only come across more expensive problems.

Im at 1800$ for rebuilding mine on machining the block, new pistons and rods. still quite a bit to do.

yeah bro, if you keep driving like that you might put some holes on the block.
cant change just the bearings cause the crank is bad too. It will just spin the bearings
again as soon as you start the car.

How do you know if the metal shavings are from bearings and how do you tell if they are bad or not?

Just have it rebuilt, or buy a new shortblock.
You spun one or more of your bearings.

I drop the block, pistons, crank, rods off at the machine shop to have them mic it and make sure there all good. He looked at the crank right away with out mic it he said from the feel of it on the main bearing part he said I might need a new crank. I brought him the bearings that were in there he said they did not spin buy they were toasted and burnt and probably about to be spun. So I guess I have to might get a new crank
