obd2 -> obd1 problem
well, i'm not sure if this is the right forum, but here it goes. i have a '96 (obd2) gsr, and i just got my obd1 p72 ecu. my car runs fine with the obd2 ecu, no funny sounds or noises. when i tried the obd1 ecu with my harness, my car made this funny sound like there was a vacuum leak. i checked my hoses, but couldn't find it. i plugged the obd2 ecu back in, and it runs fine again. i'm wondering if i was supposed to rewire something or do something before i use it?
also, whats the difference between the obd1 and obd2 ecu's? i know that obd1 only uses 1 o2 sensor, and the connectors. anything different with the vacuum? any info/help is appreciated, thx.
yes i tried searchin', i came up with buncha for sale stuff.

What are you talking about?
The OBD1 ecu doesn't support the OBD2 EVAP system, so that leaking you are hearing is your purge solenoid going crazy. Just unplug the harness from the solenoid and it should stop making that noise.
You don't need an OBD1 harness or distributor.

i'm probably sure that it would be your EVAP system. I have an obd2 ls and when i put my obd1 ecu it made the same noise until it was warmed up.
I just unplugged the connector from the intake manifold and everything was good after that.
It is mainly used for emmisions

Yes, it is only for emissions control. I had to remove the solenoid and the charcoal canister to get my oil catch can in. It has no affect on how the car runs.
