Default obd 2 tune capabilities?!?

I have just purchased the 97 ls teg and I am wondering if I change the obd2 computer to a JDM obd2 like with a obd2 swap, if this will pass inspection. I mean i heard that u cant without it getting it reflashed for like 1000 bucks, and that would suck.the point is that a different ECU would read the vin from another car right?? Help[ if u can, as i cant find stickies of this..thanks

Your title has nothing to do with your question. They don't look at your ecu. All they do is plug a scanner in since you're obd2.

But if the computer notices the vin from the ecu dosent match the vin from the car thats being inspected, then theres conflict...

No, my buddie has an 97 Civic/ gsr swap. He uses a jdm p30 ecu for emissions. Past with flying colors.

Unless they are that strict in NC, then I suggest don't mess with your dd.

Ok I think you are right. No there not that strict here, however, 2001 and up i think the vin from the ecu and the vin from car have to match...But 97 is straight...thanks for the info though, cause i dont know of anyone thats done it yet, most ppl do the obd1 conversion...thatll never pass

Having a different ECU has nothing to do with passing inspection. You are allowed to have a different ECU than the one you car comes with, BUT it has to be OBD2. What would happen if you managed to fry the ECU?? You cant get the same ECU with the same VIN. You would source one online, as long as it was in good condition, slap it on, and you would have everything back in working order.

If you convert to OBD1, then no.

I have swapped out ECUs in the past in order to get the car inspected, and nothing has ever happened, and yes mine was an OBD1 converted GSR. I slapped the p72 back on, removed the wiring harness, connected my secondary o2 sensor, and I was golden.

Ok....Say i add the gsr head to my ls, then would it work to plug the old ecu back in for inspection??or would I have to put the ls head back on? OR would i have to make sure the injectors and dizzy are obd2? I know this sounds stupid, and forgive me for not knowing alot about the obd2, but i want to swap, but be able to pass inspection too! Or do i have to get a obd2 engine, and run it obd1 with obd1 injectors, computer, and dizzy, and then change it back to my obd2 stuff at inspection time....Sorry again for the lack of knowledge!

ls/vtec will run on an obd2a ecu but like ****. You can use either the obd2 injectors/dizzy/alternator as long as you are using the obd2 engine harness.

You can also run obd1 injectors/dizzy/alternator if you use the obd1 engine harness hence the clips for those three are different from obd1 to obd2.

Easiest route to run is keep your obd2 engine harness and run everything obd2 in your engine bay and just get an obd2a/b-obd1 conversion harness and run a chipped obd1 ecu for the ls/vtec swap. Im sure you can pass smog with an obd1 ecu.

Hondata has a way to do it. Its like a obd1 jumper inside the ecu. It looks totally stock. My friend has sold few of em before but I know this cause he has tryed some base maps on my 4 door cause he neeeded obd2 car to do it on

That's bull crap. What happen if your ECU goes bad and you need to replace it with another ECU?

How your going to pass SMOG on a OBD2 vehicle using a OBD1 ECU? The SMOG computer won't read it. SMOG station here in Maryland only plug up to OBD2 plugs. OBD1 vehicle only get the sniffer test.

As for JDM ECU the SMOG computer won't be able to read it.

No more rollers in Maryland.

spend $225 and convert to obd1 with a converson harness and get a chipped p28 and you can run your data port and pass inspection and emissions i have a obd2a gsr and i converted to obd1 and tuned on neptune and have full plug and play data port and the cel is still functional
