Default New with integra

hey, i decided to come here to ask about this 1995 integra i just received. I got it because of a loss in my family and they had nothing to do with it so they gave it to me. trust me, i'm not happy about this loss, but i'm fine about it now.

anyways, like i said, its a 95 integra, i think. give or take a year. i dont know what model it is and cant seem to find anything that tells me what it could be. this is all i know about it:

Sedan
Stick
VTEC engine
almost 100,000 miles on it

The car was driven softly by the original owner, so i think its in ok condition. now what i want to know is, how can i find out what model it is? I've also been thinking about doing a little bit of performance work on it or maybe rebuilding the engine and boring it out if there seems to be good ammount of miles on it. i can do all the work on it myself because of the the access to tools and such. So, what would be good starting point in working on the car? i have about max price range of 1000 bucks, but since I dont have to pay for labor, its reasonable ammount i think for little bit of work

It's a GS-R model. Thats the only model that comes with a VTEC equipped engine besides Type R models.

is it? my mom didnt think that it could have been the good model because, well, my aunt was a little bit cheap, she didnt think she would spend extra money on something like a car

if its V-Tec than its at least a GS-R and if she was cheap, then its probably not a type-R. If its at 100K miles then change the timing belt and inspect it for anything ele that needs to be changes. Fluids, seals etc. Once thats dont you can recalc how much you have left to spend on performance parts. If you can do work youself, go for forged internals. That will get your motor in shape for anything else you want to do to it later.

sorry to hear about your loss, i hope you enjoy your car. best bang for buck: itr 22mm rear sway bar with a bsq mount kit. they can be had for 100 or less.

to check if you've gota gsr motor. take a look at this picture. do you see the engraved writing to the left of the left-most header pipe? its somewhat faint in this picture. if it says b18c1 then you've got it, this is only one of the few indicators.

well, i dont have it at home right now, my dad drives it around a little bit now as it is much easier than driving a 1989 911... i know its not gonna be the type R, but if its either a gs-r or type R, then its gonna be gs-r i guess. one thing i wanna do is tighten the suspension, because this feels pretty loose. the tires will hit the top of the wheel well often enough, so maybe buy some better shocks to help that out

i looked at car-stats.com and it says the 95 gs-r does 0-60 in 6.5 sec. is that true? i know its much faster than my older car, but i dont see it being THAT fast. and what kinda HP comes out of the stock vtec engine of that year for this model car?

It sounds like my car I also have a 95 gsr sedan and it's pretty quick. Since I'm almost 6000 feet high, my 0-60 time is in the high 7's to mid 8's, so 6.5 seconds sounds about right at sea-level. From the stock engine, Honda says 170 hp at the flywheel, which translates to about 145 hp to the wheels at sea level. HTH ^_^

gsr is 170hp at the crank. A stock 2-door usually runs 15.5 on the 1/4 mile. The 4-door should be a little slower. It's a nice car though.

gsr has a redline of 8100. the valce cover will say "dohc vtec" on it.
i dont have a pic but im sure someone does of the vtec selnoid on the engine block. if youve got all those then its the gsr.
they put out 170hp (flywheel rated) and 128(?)ft/lbs of torque. pretty good for a light (~2600lbs) car. they do the 1/4 in ~15.5 stock.
all the gsrs 94-01 hade the same engine and made the same power. only differences are the 96+ have obd2, an emissions thingy.
i dont know if the 0-60 time is right. i think it should be around 7seconds.

damn some one beat me to it.

the car really shines in the higher rpms and responds nicely to mods.
sorry bout the loss, but congrats on the nice car.

yep, redline at 8000 or so, and says DOHC VTEC on top of engine. so, 170 hp, eh? thats what i thought it was from reading around. and yes, it is pretty damn quick at high rpms, i guess thats where it has any power... so ya, i'm definitly gonna change the shocks, dont know how much that'll cost to get good ones. dont know what else i'll do with it though, basically wanna give it little more umpth

If I were you I'd do the maintenance stuff first so you havea reliable car. Do the timing belt, water pump, fluids, belts and hoses. Then get some KYB GR2 struts, on http://www.nopionline.com they are only $33 for back struts and $67 each for front ones. The if you have some extra money get an intake of some sort, maybe a AEM short ram intake or cold air intake, that would help the motor breathe better in the upper rpms. Then you can probbably get a mild exhaust and a header maybe.
I wouldn't worry about rebuilding that motor. As long as its not really using oil, i'm sure that thing will last along time. I don't know if your new to Honda motors but if you treat them right and dont beat on them there's no reason they can't last well over 200k.
Have fun with your new car.

Yeah. In 95 the geezer was the only VTEC teggy we had. In 97 we got limited quantities of Type R's.

Ohh yeah, they make 4 door type r's... just not in the US.

if the wheels have 5 spokes then its a GSR, assuming the stock ones are still on

EDIT: i didnt read the whole thread

Well if its a 1995 then its DEF A GSR . There are no ITR's IN UNited states in 1995 anyway . We didnt get them till 1998 . So its DEF A GSR . The car prob has never been Vtec'ed before thats the funnnny thing . So u are gona have to rip it a new one . Replace allllll Gaskets seals , Belts Etc . And if u wanna spend some more money . New internals would be nice .. If u plan on staying all motor and not modding it . Get higher COmpression pistons also .
first type R's in U.S. were actually the 97 models.
the most obvious way to find out if it's a GSR is lookin at the dash and seeing the
8100 redline. that's w/out popping yer hood. good luck with the car.

Depending on how much you are willing to spend, you can definately do better than the KYB's for struts. But you said only a 1000 spending limit. When you get through with a nice suspension, won't be much room left for a good a mount of engine work. Koni yellow's are generally the preferred struts. Mated with springs for probably around $600-700. *Note that the KYBS mentioned aren't adjustable. Throw in a sway bar and you're already at $800. Leaves $200 for what? a header? an intake? As far as new motor.... definately check out the engine to see if you have a reliable one under the hood. After that, there are a number of paths you can go with the car. Forced Induction, or higher profile cams and an All Motor setup. Just figure out how much you want to spend and where you want to go.

Just look for the VTEC solenoid on the head. This alone won't guarantee that the engine is legit (if that's not even possible in your case) but it will verify that the head is VTEC. However, it can be assumed, from the given history of the car, that the car is a GSR, not a swapped LS/VTEC, etc.

Look at the redline on your tach (8100 RPM)... and if it's an automatic, a red flag should go up.

Your VIN will also confirm this.

This stat is based on the 2dr. So due to the weight increase the sedan will be slower. But the '95 GSR is touted as being the fastest of the 3rd gen integras because it is the lightest of all the years.

But since most of this information is for a 2dr it is irrelevant and I have pretty much wasted 30 seconds of your life that you will not get back. But for more info check out http://www.edmunds.com

The best thing you can do for that car would be an ITR rear sway bar. Do a search on it and you'll find a million hits. If you want to upgrade the suspension DO THIS FIRST!!!!!! Very inexpensive (~$100) and dramaticlly tightens up your *** end.

oh, and about sway bar: ya, i'm thinking bout getting one of those too, but the struts on the car right now are just ****. they constantly allow the tires to run on the top of the wheel well, which is one of the things i wanna fix, so might as well get some good struts while i'm at it.
