Default Need Launching tips

I am gonna throw some steel rims on my teggy with nitto drag radials. So what I need to know is should I spin my tires over once to clean them or go ahead and burn out to heat them up before racing? Also I was wondering tips on how others on this board launch their N/A gs-r's? Twanks

Cheers

i'm pretty sure burning out and heating up tires on ANYTHING but slicks makes the traction worse.

I think it says on the Nitto site that the optimum temp for their DR's is 95 degrees, so I say light em up, at least a bit.

i believe you need to heat them up as well but dont quote me. Related question, do you go through the water with them as if they are slicks? Or do you go around?
I launch at 3500 and slip it, usually get high 2.2 low 2.3 60s. I wouldnt dump the clutch you will get too much spin (street tires) With the drag radials i would try slipping it around 6k.

C'mon now...your tires have to be somewhat hot to get some traction. You're not going to grip **** if your tires are cold.

Whatever you do, DON'T go through the water if you don't have slicks. Go around.

heat them up launch it at 4500 rpm to 5000 rpm.once it grips gun it. gs-r's lack so much bottom end. 300 is too low to launch especially if you have nitto's there suppose to help you with traction.

your pretty wrong also.

Your correct for normal street tires, but with Nittos and BFG DR's they want to be warmed up but good.

Burn out tips.............

This applys to Nittos or slicks.........
Roll front tires through water box stop. You rear tires should still be behind the box with you stradling the wet area. Set Ebrake HARD! Select 2nd gear and rev to about 3500-4000 rpm. Engage clutch while feeding gas pedal to maintain 5000-6000 rpm's. You want smoke off both tires.

For slicks, when they start to drag the rear tires through the water box, release the ebrake and lift off throttle. I usually drag rear tires through water box before releasing ebrake.

The pic below is just a SOHC on 20x8x14 slicks and NO LSD, also note the tail wind. You can also see how I stradled the water box.

BTW I cut a 1.875 60ft after this burnout (slicks) with 75 shot.

select 2nd gear? won't you stall out?
whenever i warm slicks or drag radials i just hit the e brake in the wet area and drop it at 4500 and keep it around 5500

If my little SOHC with stock clutch can spin them over in second, surely a DOHC will.

The benefit is more even tire spin if you have a open diff, and the tires heat up in about 1/2 the time (duh!)

On my GSR I use slicks....I run them w/ 18-20pds of pressure. It is perfect No tire spin....soon as I dump the clutch.....it grips and I'm gone high 2.1 low 2.2's 60' times. I rev the car to like....ehhh 5500- 6300 keep the revs up there and when it's time to go I 'm gone. My friend who has the same car is a nut....he keeps the car reving high.....when he launches he's gone. But I go through the water and heat them up good and plenty....smoke pouring everywhere....it's a lot of fun!!

you are mistaken...........

I did the burnout in second. Slicks, MT 20x8x14, were at 13 psi. Any lower and they slip on the rims which they are mounted on.

I get about 2-3 feet on "hazing" on the slicks. Then ZEX kicks in and I'm gone!

only 2.1 on a GSR on slicks????

I do better with my SOHC on street tires.

Try 14 psi and a insane launch.

This SOHC launches at 7000+ rpm

Damn! He's right man, a GSR with slicks runnin 2.1 and 2.2 for a sixty foot is lagging. I was doin 2.3s on street tires. Lower your tire pressure. My best with slicks on was 1.5

Runnin through the wet box in 2nd is alot better. It spins the wheels faster, therefore heats tire up quicker.

First of all I'm not out to kill my god damn brand new car. Thats 1 thing. That was the 1 st racing it w/ the slicks. So really I could care less what it should do or shouldn't do. I'll drive my the way I want. And there is no way a 1.6 SOHC launching at 7K is doin a better 60' then me! I wanna see the time slip to prove it.

If your not gonna put the slicks to good use, why did you even buy them? Slicks are for high rev clutch drops...you might as well get drag radials if you don't have the power, or even the right launch technique to put them to good use. But hey what do I care..not my car.

As i remember, normal street tires don't like the extra rubber that a burn out does.

First he sounded mad, and then a little bitter.. i get 2.1-2.2s in my grandma's park avenue

As for the crazy burnouts with all the smoke and all, whether u are on slicks, drs or streets, it's overkill.. On slicks, a 5sec burnout is plenty enough to get the tire temps up especially with the hot asphalt around here.. As for street tires and drag radials, stay out the 'bleach box' so u don't track [as much] water up to the line and it's always recommended to do a little 2-3 second spinner to get them warmed up a bit, get the rocks off, etc (plus it looks cool ).. Remember that these tires are rubber, and the hotter they get, the LESS sticky they become.. Your best bet, as usual, is to learn your setup and keep trying out different ****.. Good luck

I never scanned the 13.55 slip with the 1.875 60 ft.
But this will do......

Ever think what a WEAK 1.5L DX motor could do??????
