NEED to find an answer...
I recently purchased a GSR head but the problem is that when i bought it, it didnt have the camshaft covers. i was told by a tuner shop that i could use covers from a different head. Is this true? can i just build the head then use the cam covers off my running GSR motor. just switch them out once the build is finished. i really need some input on this.
You should not mix and match the camshaft caps between heads. They are line bored as an assembly. The caps are below the number 6s in the diagram. They are not numbered because they are only sold with a head.

And then what do you do? There are no camshaft bearings to compensate for the additional clearance.

sorry didnt mean line bore, meant hone. caps are caps, theyre all made to the same spec right? if i can swap gsr cams into my b16 and it works fine then i see no reason why you couldnt use gsr caps from a different head on another gsr head. i could see a problem if they were excessivley worn. i may not be an ase mechanic, but im sure theyll work fine from another head.
Running slightly different caps that aren't bored to exactly the same specs as the original caps for the head.. is a lot better then running no caps at all
..
If you didn't get the caps when you bought the head - contact the place again, see if they have them.. random chance, but worth a phone call..
If not, get a set of caps off another GSR head and have them checked over to make sure they're within spec.

You may get lucky. Most likely you will not. The cam caps are line bored specifically to the head. IMO, a head without the cam caps is worthless. I say this for two reasons:
1) The caps are custom line bored to each head.
2) If a head is missing critical parts like the cam caps, how was it treated?
