Need clarification on launch terms
I've been reading some people's comments on launches and drag racing. I was wondering what exactly is "slipping" the clutch. What exactly is "dumping" the clutch. Which is safer for the car and yields a better launch?
ok if u r slipping the clutch that means the clutch isnt all the way out but u r letting it out pretty quick, but when u just dump the clutch u r just dropping the clutch, so if u slip u will start moving and u will burn for a little but, but if u atomatically dump the clutch all the power u r launching at it will go straight 2 the wheels and u will burn for twice as long as if u just slip the clutch...so slip the clutch when u drag..
slipping the clutch pretty much means just easing the clutch up where your kinda burning the clutch
dumping the clutch is when you just drop the clutch/side step the clutch whatever you wanna call but usually by doing this, your either just gonna bog off the line if the revs arent high enough but mostlikly you'll just be sitting there spinning tires if you drop the clutch unless your on slicks
the better way of doing is easing the clutch out or feathering it out...pretty much the way i do it is like let the clutch out like your driving normal but a little bit faster but it all depends on traction...if you start to spin tires let it out slower if your not spinning tires let it out quicker...hth

thanks for the clarification, that's what i thought and that is what i do anyway... i think. So slipping the clutch is instead of just reving the engine and completely letting off the clutch, you rev the engine and ease of the clutch, but much faster than you usually would?
