MSD Igntions
After getting my cams, high flow fuel pump and Injectors installed my car had a tough time burning the extra gas. I bought a MSD 6AL, Blaster 3 coil, MSD cap, Beru spark plugs and Nology wires. My gas mileage improved dramatically, as well as my throttle response. I would highly recommend getting this set-up, it has been worth every penny. If your not to good at wiring check out Holley's Annihilator line of ignitions, they all use plug and play technology. If your car doesn't have any internal mods, then save your money for something else
AhHa - that's the kind of response I was hoping for! Yes, I've done quite a bit of work to the engine & I suspect I'm not burning all the fuel I'm supplying & just curious if anyone had experienced a noticeable difference, as you have described.
I'm leaning towards the SCI model as it seems more suited to a 9k revving motor and I don't need a rev limiter. As for the coil, why a Blaster 3 instead of a Blaster 2? Also does an Integra need a coil with a ballast?
Any recommendations on less expensive sources for the MSD stuff??
thanx...

Dewd DO NOT GET THE SCI MODEL!!! I know someone who had it and was very let down, I bought my 6AL from summit for like $140, The Sci is a $260 6AL all the same features. Also your plug wire choice should be carefully considered, After using NOLOGY I will never use anything else

I have the 6AL with my GSR with CTR cams and so on. IMO, it won't do a thing unless you are running around 200whp. The stock ignition will work fine. I originally bought the 6AL to resell but I got an itch to install it, so I did. I am running Magnecore wires with it. Result: Idle felt a bit better and response seemed better as well. But after driving it for a few more months I don't really feel it is a necessary item with the mods I have.
Was it a waste of money? Yes and No. Yes, for the price I got it for. No, I wouldn't waste my money on one again. I can make a few bucks if I ever get off my duff and un-install it. You can probably just improve spark by advancing your timing, getting new wires and plugs and a new cap and rotor. Things you should change anyways.
I have friends running JDM R-spec engines with the stock ignitions so I don't see the need for one... Of course this is after I already got one. Save your cash.

My LSVTEC motor being built as we speak is gong to be running 11.3:1 compression via Endyn Rollerwave pistons and CTR cams and I will be using a B&M FPR & gauge set and RC cleaned and balanced 246cc injectors. Do you think I would need a 6AL b/c of the increased compression and fuel going into the cylinders?? I will be running magnecore 8.5s, changing the dist cap, rotor and plugs. TIA.
The SCI model is just a way for MSD to make $$ off of the import crowd. The SCI-L is the model that is around $240. The SCI has the same features as the 6A, but the 6A is $40 less. For the same price as the SCI, you can get the 6AL which has all the features of the SCI, plus the "soft-touch" rev limit feature which is a very good thing. If you get one, go 6AL. Of course, the pills for the rev limit are around $25, but you don't NEED to incorporate the "soft-touch" if you don't want. If you're pressurized, or have increased compression, get one.
I'd recommend getting it from Summit, unless of course, you can find it on thepartstrader.com, or maybe a group buy for one.

http://www.summitracing.com has the 6AL for $170. The igniyion comes with 5 different RPM pills 4,5,6,7 and 8k. Oh yeah if you call ask to speak with Clark, Dean is a major *******

Halo - here is the response directly from the MSD engineers when I asked them the difference between the SCI and 6AL models:
Of course he doesn't mention that the SCI model costs more!
The MSD 6AL and the MSD SCI PN# 6320 are the same unit, the only deference is the color of the case.
