Default Motor Mount Inserts?

Any difference between the inserts sold by Energy Suspension and an actual mount kit? Apart from the cost of course.

One is complete polyurethane, the other fills the holes in the stock rubber mounts with polyurethane.

I had the inserts in just my 2 front lower torque mounts for only a couple of weeks before pulling them out. It made the car vibrate like CRAZY at idle and I just couldn't stand it. I couldn't imagine how it would feel with the complete inserts for all 5 mounts.

Any opinions on differences between using ES and Prothane brands?

I agree with PatrickGSR94,
I put a Prothane rear motor mount insert in my car, and talk about vibration!
My car feels like it's gonna fall apart or something.
I'd hate to change this damn thing out again.

This insert says made of urethane, but it just feels like hard azz plastic.

Any insight on Energy Suspensions Inserts?

polyurethane is a type of plastic. I think one brand is thought to be softer than the other, but I'm not sure which is which.

I have the front and rear ES mount inserts on my DA,
it vibrates a little but nothing to bitch about,
its not like you want to put these in for smoothness in the first place..

they work great on the streets no wheel hop but when you hit the strip you might get a bounce here or there but its definatley a improvement over stock.

if your planning for a DD go with the ES. if your tracking the car go buy the acutal mounts..

PS is your s2k cluster in yet?

In my teg, i have the Innovative Billet mounts 65A Grade for the polyurethane. All I can say is, the engine is solid. No engine flexing whatsoever. I didn't even replace the 2 other mounts. All that was replaced is the 3 main ones. Driver side mount, passenger side mount, and rear engine mount.

The only con to this is that it transfers a lot of engine vibration into the cabin as others have said. But of course, in choosing performance, there's always the downside of giving up comfort.

Man, I just took a 2hr drive, and sh*t, this insert has got to go.
I'm probaly gonna opt for an Energy Suspension one.

Does anyone know if this Prothane insert will soften over time?

If you want the best of both worlds, get an engine torque damper. I had one and loved it. Now, it's not going to help you for autoX-type driving but for city driving and eliminating wheel hop, nothing beats it.

I read someone said that an engine torque damper will minimize the harsh vibration.
Is this what you're referring to?

You should try solid billet aluminum mounts. Talk about a free foot massage.

No one make billet mounts for a DA.

I think I'll try the ES inserts.

i have a dc2 and bought the prothane kit, it comes with a rear and pass side insert, but on the driver side it comes with 3 solid disc, meaning you have to hollow the old mount out to insert them, yea i remember when i put them in like two years ago the mass difference it made when you cranked it up, alot of hard vibration, but i don't really notice it all anymore, i guess cause i've had it so long, but it definately helps and isn't just gonna rott out anytime soon.

The engine damper is like a shock for your engine. It attaches to the driver's side of the motor and braces in between the engine block and the chassis. The weak link in honda's engine mounting is that upper driver's side mount, which allows the engine to sway in the engine bay which allows for a more comfortable ride while sacrificing maneuverability. I've never had aftermarket engine mounts but i'd imagine that the car would be able to take corners a lot better without 1000lbs swaying from one side to another. So, the engine torque damper doesn't help with that, but basically, you put the engine torque damper there and you eliminate wheel hop and other torque movements like when you downshift w/o rev matching. It basically smoothens the ride for you.

I don't know about you but wheel hop took the fun out of driving my civic for a while.

I know what an engine damper is, and it's purpose, but I wanted to know, With my rear engine mount insert installed, I'm getting alot of engine vibration, so will an engine damper help with that?

Any body know if ES inserts are softer than Prothanes?

If you know what it is and what it's purpose is, you'd know that it's a torque damper. The engine doesn't produce torque when idling, hence it would have nothing to damper.

Ironically, you've already replaced the part that Honda makes to dampen general engine vibration.....the stock mounts.

Which mounts are stiffer? The Prothanes or ES?
