Default modified 9005 conversion

instead of doing the regular 9005 conversion, what if i did the normal part where i alter the tabs of the bulb so it fits the 9006 slot, but i used the highbeam wire harness and didnt have highbeams.
Meaning i use the 9005 bulbs in the 9006 headlight socket, and use the 9005 wiring harness/bulb connerctor for the 9005 bulb, i wouldnt have highbeams but would the bulb be short lived like the regular 9005 conversion? anyone done this?
would this cause extra heat compared with the regular 9005 conversion?

the 9005's put out more light the 9006's. You can check the sylvania website, they give the numbers

That is a very interesting idea --- and I think it would work. You should give it a try and post the results --- I'm quite impressed.

the 9005's put out more light the 9006's. You can check the sylvania website, they give the numbers
9005 = 1700 lumens
9006 = 1000 lumens

So, does everyone use the Silverstars for the 9005 conversion??

silverstars produce the whitest amount of light in my opinon. ive heard that the cool blues put out a nice color as well. only problem is they burn out within a year. your idea intrests me though. give it a shot and let us know what comes about.

So basically just pop 9005 bulbs into the 9006 socket?

I dont know what would happen either...the lens is different, so Im not sure how the beam pattern would be, and you would have to drive with your "high beam light" on constantly I guess as well. Give it a shot, see how it works out.

to answer your question, no they wouldn't last any longer. The high beam (9005) wasn't designed to be on all the time. Running the 9005 all the time will cause it to burn out quicker. I have had my 9005 silverstars converted and they've been fine for a year now. I do hear about people having problems before that though. I do not recommend doing what you are doing. It's a good idea to have the option of a high beam. You never know when it can come in handy. I use mine all the time to flash people that **** me off. Or sometimes on a really dark road they get turned on too. The 9005 conversion is great, but it's not the be all end all of lighting. I say just do the conversion the way you're supposed to.

The wiring is the same size for both low and high beam harnesses, so there will not be any difference in bulb life or anything. My Silverstars only lasted me 4 months before one burned out, whereas the Cool Blues lasted 1.5 years before one burned out (I used the CB's before the SS's, took them out when I got the SS's, then put them back in after one SS burned out).

I used some GE 9005 bulbs from Walmart after my first SS burned out after 11 or so months... light color and output is the same, slight difference in color but not noticable.

I just did the 9005 conversion and I love it. Nice and cheap and effective. What bulbs would you all recommend? I am have cool blues right now. Is there anything better? I would like to get HID one day but this puts it on the back burner. Cool upgrade.
