Did you check for active water leaks? Sounds like you have some old water laying somewhere. Check around. Check the trunk under the spare.. thats where i find the problem 80% of the time.

You need to be more specific. Where is this smell: trunk, interior, heater?

The tailight gaskets are the usual water leaks for the trunk.

To do it the "right" way.... take off all your interior rear panels then sit in teh trunk. Have a friend witha hose spray the back of hte car with the hatch closed. You should see whater coming in soon enough.

Another sure fire way to see that your tailight seals are gone is that you'll see condensation (or sometimes even a water level) inside the lens portion of your tailights.

Another thing to check is the seal around your hatch for cuts, rips, missing parts, etc.

I agree, just take your panels off sit in the trunk and have someone run a hose over the trunk or hatch etc... Also if the trunk liner is wet and you live in a humid area or a warm climant..I wouyld suggest that you take out the rear interior let it sit out in the sunin the grass or in your garge with some fans on the interior..I did this with my car after winter and i havent had a problem since.

You can also tape paper towels in the trunk below the taillights, near the wheel wells, etc.

I had a mildew problem 10 times worse than yours in my teg so I can share some of the tricks I learned to salvage your interior.

GETTIING RID OF MILDEW INSIDE YOUR RIDE

1. You have to find the source of the leak and stop it, if you don't there is no point in continuing the rest of the process because it's just counter productive.

2. Thoroughly dry the all areas and surfaces that are still wet or damp .

3. Kill the existing mold/mildew. Sunlight will kill mildew so if you have any removable panels take them out, wipe them down and put them in the sun. Chlorine bleach will also kill it so use this diluted with water on all your hard surfaces, but be careful not to get bleach on your carpet or cloth seats or any type of dyed fabric or cloth.

Cleaning mildew from cloth seats and carpet will be the most work because you can't use bleach on these and they tend to hold the mildewy odor. There are some natural ways to deal with this but the ingredients may be hard to find or expensive. One such way is mixing grapfruit seed extract in a spray bottle with water, spraying it on the fabric and allow it to air dry. Another method is using white vinegar. Vinegar smells probably just as bad as the mildew does but the smell dissipates as it dries. If you have a carpet shampooer like a Bissel or something that has a hand attachment, you should try using straight vinegar as the cleaning solution and use it on your seats and carpet.

**Lysol** kills mildew too but with any of these things you should test a small spot first to make sure it won't ruin your fabric.
Well I hope someone can use this info to repair mildew damage because replacing your interior ain't exactly cheap.

^^^^Thanks for the reply man, I'll try putting my panels in the sunlight when it gets warmer and see if that works.
