Default Methods to "hide" your header?

I"m about to get a 4-1 Stainless steel header that is NOT carb exempt. I was trying to think of ways to make it less obvious to cops that it is an aftermarket piece. The blingin' SS header just screams out to cops as illegal. So i was trying to think of ways to "hide" it, like painting it flat black with high temp paint, or trying to make brackets to weld on so i can screw on a heat shield of some sort. Something along the lines of hiding it would be cool. Anyone have any ideas? Right now, i might just paint it black...

The goal is to just avoid being sent to the state ref. These days, with cops being knowledgeable on parts, and so strict, they'll send someone to the ref for a single part missing a carb EO#. Not planning to get pulled over either, but these kind of precautions help to eas my mind...incase i do get pulled over.

why not sell that header and go with the JDM ITR header that already has brackets for the heatshield?

You can use some header wrap. That might make it less obvious.

As others have suggested, you could get the JDM ITR header with the brackets already on it.

Anyways, good luck

i think a heat shield would hide it the most, you can probably go to a muffler shop and have them make something for you or just go to home depot and get some metal and make it yourself

yeah i'm aware of the jdm 4-1 and its 2 heat shields, however i am getting a good price from a friend for a brand new SS replica for around $100. Can't compare that to the $300-$400 pricetag of the jdm 4-1...

thanks for the responses.

yeah that is the idea! i actually have the comptech icebox and itr intake arm (all black incase you didn't know). I've been pulled over and the cop didn't notice it before. I suppose you've never been pulled over since you don't worry about this stuff. i've been pulled over numerous times, and had my hood popped, and sent to the ref once. so sorry, i don't just want to "fukk hiding it" ....haha....

spray the header flat black with high temp paint and it wont stand out half as much, possibly use your stock heat shield over it?

comptech intake arm is supposed to be polished aluminum, and is carb legal.

Aren't most headers Carb legal? I'm in Oregon, so we don't have to worry about anything unless we don't pass emissions every two years. There's actually only two cities here that we even have to take the test.

go to home depot and buy that spray paint that makes it look rusty so it will look like every other stock exhaust manifold out there. What about your factory heat shield or one off a b16a. I'm sure someone out there would sell you one for cheap.

yeah i know its carb legal, but its freakin expensive. I got the 3" ITR intake arm for free.

Exactly! you have been lucky. When i get my motor in, it won't exactly be stock/legal either....which means, getting sent to the ref will screw me. its not just a header and intake that i would need to take off! so thats the point of this whole thread. If the police officer sees no reason to send me to the ref, than the "hiding" has done its job.
