Default Is the MAT sensor necessary?

So I just swapped my new motor into the teg and traded the old one for rims. My manifold air temp sensor screws were stuck to the point where I would have stripped them(crappy phillips head) so I just left it on there. My edelbrock i.m. came with a blockoff plate for the sensor so i'm just using that but does anyone know if this sensor's manditory or if it will effect the way the car runs, check engine lights etc? I may eventually grab one from a junk yard but havent had time lately and may not for a while, thanks

Yes, it is required.

Use an impact driver to remove those screws.

I already gave the motor away... I checked at autozone and they can't get the part either

The "MAT" sensor that you are referring to is called an Intake Air Temperature (IAT) on you engine.
