maint reqd light

how do i get rid of this stupid light that blinks when i turn on the car?

There is a button you hold down somewhere under the steering column I believe. I've always had a hard time finding it.

Correct. Just hold the button after you start your car. If you look in the owner's manual, it shows the location.
