LSvtec smog test
i was wondering do LSvtec passes smog cuz i hurd it dont. if it doenst pass smog then wah could i do to make it pass smog..
also is 120 thousand mile on a car a lot of little. you think is it enough to rebuild the motor or it would be fine cuz the motor still run fine.
if i want to put a turbo in my LS motor should i wait till i rebuild the motor or should i just drop the turbo in now

For california smog, you have to keep the original motor, that includes the tranny and head. If you swap engines, then you have to get it passed through a referee. You can't pass, ever, with a head swap.
120k aint ****, if nothing wrong with your car then why try and fix it? and no lsv will not pass smog unless you pay somebody 200-300 to do it illegally(thats what i did with my b18 crx). dont even try to go to ref cuz once they see it they will write it up and you'll have to go back. turbo requires maintenance like he said so just get a coo *** lsv and try not to mash too much

That's true.. you can't pass **** if you don't run the orignal motor because the guy who's doing the testing will do the recordings from the car's year... not from your engines... say if you have a 91 Integra, and you swapped a 98 B18C5 motor... even though the B18c5 may be IMMACULATE AND CLEAN as freshly changed oil, still won't pass because the specs will be thrown off... thus won't passing you.

not true. my friend passed smog with his jdm zc legitlly. my other friend with a jdm si-r motor passed legitly also.
refs are only if you get rolled and hood popped. or a dick smog tech wont pass you on the visual

you wont pass smog with a LS-Vtec...basically its 2 motors in one. vins are different between the two so that is why you cant...as for the motor swaps...you CAN pass smog. that is if you buy it directly from an importer with all paperwork and reciept.

ok children... time to go to school
first: it depends on smog station
i had a b16 WITH a check engine light on, and i didnt show them any papers, and i was in and out in 40 minutes
second: you can pass with ls v if u know how to tune and you have a 5 gas analyzer
-the problem with this is, the DOHC VTEC valve cover on a non vtec chassi is kind of a give away if the guy has any clue what he is doing
third: there arent any vin #s on cylinder heads, just codes (ex. a 2000 itr head will have a stamp 0/0 p/73)
fourth: if you are in cali and want to pass smog, STAY LEGIT. B.A.R. legal swaps and C.A.R.B. approved performance parts only
and to the new guy, yes, a turbo will greatly effect emissions. anything you do that will affect 02, nox, co2, co, and hc will effect it. just spend the money on a greddy street legal kit, its worth the money for the R&D they put into it plus you know you are safe from da piggys impounding ur baby
