LS VTEC???
The gsr motor already has vtec, so "gsr vtec" is like saying "japanese honda". THere's nothing else it could be.
An ls/vtec is when you swap a vtec head (b16, b18c, etc.) onto an LS block, which did not originally come with vtec. Hopefully that clarifies something for you. The ls/vtec tends to yeild more power due to a higher compression ratio. The question of whether its better or not is very debatable.

Ok so this is what I need right....
complete VTEC head, complete intake manifold, intake manifold gasket, head gasket, oil lines, dowel pins, head studs, GSR water pump, timing belt, balanced crank, higher compression pistons, wrist pins, pistons rings, main bearings, rod bearings, front main seal, rear main seal and exhaust manifold gasket
So I was wondering what kind of parts different people used...and which one most people use on Ls/vtec....

well.. you can certainly reuse your dowel pins.. you just have to relocate them to the other side of the head/block. secondly, you can use the stock ls rods/pistons if you're on a tight budget, but if you have some to spare, might as well while you have everything dissassembled. pm me if you have questions.

You forgot vtec oil pump. If you are doing an LSVTEC its a very good idea to put at least new pistons, and rod bolts in it. You will gain a considerable amout of horsepower with b16 pistons over ls. Its definitely cheaper to do an lsvtec over a gsr. But I prefer gsr more. I'm just glad I'm finally going to take my lsvtec out of my teg and put my gsr back in it. It's almost finished, I miss my baby. I've had the lsvtec in there for 3 years and no major problems except once I busted an oil line doing about 100mph. Scared the crap out of me. Smoke everywhere. Luckily I only lost about 1/2 a quart is was just nicely spraying directly onto my cat
.
But to answer your question if you have an otherwise stock LS engine and you want more power. In my mind its definitely a good idea.
