I have the Ls/Vtec setup in my car. Um, the prices do vary on what you want. Spending over 2K is about right, because that is if u want it done correctly, and having the engine be reliable. Take any Bseries Vtec Head, all the internals, you should have a GSR tranny or Type R, chipped p28 ECU because it works better than the GSR ones. IMO , i think itz really worth it, and comparing it to a bone stock GSR motor, it kicks ***
i think itz really worth it.

With i/h/e most ls/vtec's are in the 170-180 whp range. Reliability depends on if you do it right the first time and if the shop is knowledgable on this type of setup. You can use a gsr head or a b16 head. You will need a ls/vtec hose kit (which you can get at inlinefour or jdmhondaparts for like $100). And if you want to rev you will need gsr or chipped ecu, rods, block girdle etc etc. It depends how far you want to go and how reliably.

A block girdle (and associated parts) will run about $300 I believe. (www.z10eng.com)

ARP rod bolts are alos a must and some aftermarket rods owuldnt hurt either if reliability is a concern.

Well, as far as swap vs. ls/vtec, you're looking at about the same price to get the job done (the quotes I've seen for $1600+ don't go with the prices I've seen people have spent on the conversion). I think the cheapest I've seen a B18C1 (GSR) is somewhere around $3k. You SHOULD have a bit more power with the ls/vtec (10-20). For the money, the most bang for the buck would be a turbo kit. You can get a Drag gen. III for the same price as the other two and end up with 50+ more horsepower or so.

The labor for a gsr swap will be much less intensive also so less time without car, working on car, and/or money you have to pay for labor.

yea and stock gsr power versus stock ls/vtec power.... meaning like no bolt on mods or nothing.... how much hp 2 the wheels?

Well seeing as you are in MD and we are in CA, this probably wont help you much but here goes. We do Ls/vtec or B20/vtec swaps all the time. I even have a b20/vtec swap in my daily driven Integra. I have had it for almost a year without ever having a problem.

When you get the conversion done, like everyone else said is get it done right the first time.

If the mods dont mind the price we charge is $1200 for the conversion installed. This includes the earls steel braid hoses, ITR oil pump (which is a must for the conversion to last), tapping of the head along with the necessary modifications. It also includes a B16A head, and a vtec ecu chipped by Prospeed Performance (customers choice on program). We guarentee all of are work, and we always make sure the customer is satisfied with the work performed.

Of course you could ship the motor, but its up to you.

Hope that helps answer some of your questions. Of course if you are planning on doing serious mods, the bottom end can be strenghened as well. But for just a quick daily driver like mine, it is not necessary at all. I just keep the revs below 8K because with the bigger displacement, there is no need to rev higher.

1200 is a really good deal for LS/vtec, when i was looking into it in dallas no one had really done it except some guy who worked for honda and to do it his way, which is supposivly the right way it was gonna cost 3k dollars.. of course i said no to that and i started concentrating on turbo.. before u do LS/vtec give turbo a thought, the LS motor is great for turbo and u can do a complete drag kit for 3200..

well kikkoboyie: the conversion if shipped would take 3-4 days to complete. I am not sure on how much it would cost for you to get the motor pulled. I would guess around $300 each time. Or if you are good with tools, its not that hard to pull out an engine and put it back in. You would need to wire up a knock sensor, and the vtec wires. This may cost a little extra. Or you could just order a B20 motor, and we could do the full conversion for you, and then we could ship it out to you. That would be quite an improvement over your old setup. Plus you will have minimal downtime.

Shipping a longblock is usually around $200 each way. Depends on who you go through to ship it. And also a reliable motor is one that is built right. We guarantee under normal driving conditions, this motor will last a long time.
