Default ls tranny

i am running a 1998 integra ls. i am running all motor and making 200 horse at the crank. i have no problems beating anyone on the highway but i definitly am having trouble with those hatchbacks with b16s and gsr trannys in them.like i said the highway im fine but when i go down to the street races or the track i can se a big difference what can i do to keep up with them. i really don't want to swap my tranny i just put a new act clutch in it and the tranny only has 50 000 miles on it. can i swap the gears out for some b 16s or type r. or should i put a lighter fly wheel i need help with this one please post as much info as possible.

OK - 200 crank HP is about 174 wheel HP. Hmmmm... yep you might have a bit of trouble hanging w/ them...

All motor? What mods?????? A light flywheel would help.... where your car shines is 3rd gear - that's the LS secret recipe...

What's your 1/4 mile time? (a real track time)
Have you been to the dyno?

Sorry, but LS third gears are horribly long. IMO the LS third gear is VERY week, especially for an all motor application.

Get yourself a b16 or ITR tranny.

And, I'd also love to see your list of mods. And until I do so, I'm going to call BS on your claim of 200 hp at the crank. Prove me wrong.

Are you kidding? Third gear is where the LS's problems start.....and only get worse and you keep upshifting through the gear box.

The GSR uses the same 1st and 2nd gear as the LS (the higher 4.4 final drive does give the GSR a slight advantage though) but once you hit 3rd the shorter geared GSR/Si/ITR will really start to pull away if both cars are equally powered.

BTW: who quotes their power output at crank??

The GSR, Si (b16), and ITR tranny will all bolt up to the LS.

A local guy here may be selling his b16 tranny. If any of you guys are interested in his B16 (same gears as the ITR just no LSD) let me know.

What about changing your final drive? to lets say 4.78? Would this work?
Mission gearing has a kit for all hydro B-series. 4.785 Final Drive Kit=$450

4.4 usdm GSR/ITR
4.7 jdm ITR
4.9 ATS

^ those final drives are not a direct replacement for the 4.2 fd on the LS. You need to replace the countershafts.

Lots of work. IMO you'd be better off getting a GSR tranny (which has higher FD than the LS tranny) and then upgrading to a 4.7 or 4.9 FD later on. Or if you have money just get the GSR tranny + 4.7/4.9 FD done all at once

Final drives increase the torque multiplication factor. They help your car accelerate throught the rpms quicker by putting more torque to the ground. However they do make your gears effectively shorter.

I run forced induction (JRSC) - this explains my love of LS 3rd gear, and this thing is a highway car, so I'd rather stick with the LS tranny. You are absolutely correct with all motor that LS 3rd sucks.

And yea - there isn't 200 HP at that crank. No way Jose.
