Performance of LS motor and b16 tranny.....
Right now i'm running a ls motor/tranny in my ek coupe. Only mod besides suspension is intake. I recently raced my friends 98 gti with VR6 motor and I actually had the lead until 3rd gear and then he kept pulling on me.
I have heard that the b16 tranny does really well with the LS motor. I definately want to swap it in there with a new clutch and flywheel.
Is the findanza 7.5 too light, and also, how much difference will I notice in acceleration with this tranny. I have heard some people claim as much as .5 seconds in the 1/4 mile.
I'm sick and tired of my car feeling like a wounded dog after second gear.

get the b16 tranny, you will be very happy. it will seem like it goes through the gears 5x faster. IMO dont waste your money on a flywheel.

i'm thinking I don't want a 7.5 flywheel, it seems alittle light, maybe a 12.5 act streetlight would be better. Does anyone know how much quicker my car could be with the b16 tranny and upgraded clutch/flywheel?

also, anyone know the average price for a b16 tranny? I'd also want to sell my LS tranny, it has a spec stage II clutch in it now. I've searched but not found much info on the average price of these two trannys.

not sure how much its actually gonna take off of the 1/4 mile but you'll feel it! i have a fidanza 8lb flywheel and i absolutly LOVE it!!! once you get used to the difference in revs you'll be a very happy man! if you can find one with an lsd you'll be even that much more happy but definatly get the b16 or at least a gsr and the flywheel! good luck!

Re: (silverb18)
The fidanza is not too light. Myself and several others can daily drive on it perfectly fine. We installed the act streetlite 12lb in a friends integra and after driving it I wasnt happy with it. It seemed different than stock but it wasnt really noticeable for 180-200 dollars.
I have no regrets on going with the fidanza other than downtime waiting for a replacement friction surface.

yea I want to get the tranny, I'm wondering how much labor is going to cost to do the swap on top of the price of the tranny and clutch/flywheel

Labor is the most expensive part, just get some buddies and pay them beer + dinner to help you swap the tranny. You could probably get round $300-350 for the LS in cool condition, and then the B16 will cost u $550-800 depending just like they said.
you could also save a little bit more and get a TypeR tranny with the LSD for $950+ the gearing is the same as the B16. The GSR tranny is only a little longer than the B16.
If you plan on continuing to modify the LS engine for more power, or eventually adding forced induction/NO2 etc... then the flywheel will probably be a good idea. Less rotating mass is always a good idea.

u will notice a big improvement trust me, after installing a gsr tranny in mine, its probably been the second biggest gain ive ever felt in my car.
First was the swap itself

b16 tranny= ... ive had a few friends blow the diffs out of b16's before... one guy did it 2 times on a cable one and another guy on a hydro one... dunno if the b16 diff just wasnt made to handle the torque of the ls or if it was just how thry drove ... i just thought it was odd they both did exactly the same thing and only on b16 trannies

thanks for the responses, can anyone recommend a good flywheel to be paired with a act clutch. this is a daily driver and I probably won't do many more mods after the tranny swap.
