Default are ls autos split differential?

i was wondering if teg ls auto trannys are split differentials or if the diff. is together with the rest of the tranny parts?

the reason i want to know is i have chipped teeth on my ring gear and am hoping that metal chips weren't circulated to the rest of my tranny -- ******* it up worse and costing me more.

No the metal chips will not circulate with the rest of the tranny. Although the differential shares the same fluid with rest of the transmission, the transmission fluid filter protects the clutches and valve body from metal flakes. You should change transmission fluid and filter for the after the next 200 miles two times. That should get rid of most of the particulates. If your transmission is afting funny you might have to replace all your shift solenoids if they're damaged from the metal.
