Default Low compression pistons

Out of curiosity I would like to ask you guys why you prefer high compression pistons. From what I have read they give very little horsepower and really increase the risk of engine knocking and pre-mature detonation. Why not run low compression pistons? This way you save your motor alot of risk of blowing up while sacrificing a little horsepower. Also doesn't it give you alot more piston to valve clearence? Am I missing something? I searched it out but all I found was people saying low compression pistons run like crap? I'm not exactly sure what you mean so can someone fill me in. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: My bad I meant to put this in the All-Motor forum. I'll post it there and mods can delete this.

hi compression is better if ur going n/a.. low compression is better for f/i.. why run low compressino pistons in an all motor setup?

if you're staying n/a, get high compression pistons. def. notice the difference in accelleration

Well I want to go n/a. However, I want to go about it in a smart way. I don't want my engine blowing in 10k miles. I saw a graph in which two seperate motors were measured with 10:5 compression and 8:5 compression. The one with 10:5 made 7 more horsepower and 3 ft-lbs of torque than the 8:5 but the KNKI (kock index) was raised significantly (I'm quoting a Honda Builder's Handbook). I just don't think it is worth it.

lol the type s comes with 11.0 compression stock and ur thinking that running mid 10s or so wil blow in 10k miles? I'm running 11.7 and i wish it was higher. If u want to run low compressino pistons u wont be able to run cams with full potential like skunk2 stage 2s... who ever told you that compresison like that is too high doesn't know what they are talking about.

I'm not stating that 10:5-11:1 compression is high. I know it is stock so it is safe to use. My point is that compression that most all-motor people use are in the 13:1's. My point is would be to run stock or lower compression to give your engine alot longer life while sacrificing a little horsepower. The point of the graph was to show how much KNKI increases with 2 full points more of compression.

This goes along the same line as cranking up the boost in an FI car. As long as you have it tuned, you won't have any problems.

you actually produce more pressure into your motor on 8-10lbs of turbo then you will running about 15.5:1 compression. so you be judge on safety with high compression. im running 11.0:1 compression in my gsr motor with is about .8 more compressing then stock feels nice but everyone will agree its like boost you want to turn it up as much as you can cause it makes such a dramatic difference
