Been running my car recently with a loud noise comming from somewhere in the engine. Its a real low pitch sound along with the normal idle noises. I changed the oil and the filter last night and saw no metel in the old oil and made sure I had enough and ran it that same night and again today and still nothing is changed. I took it to my boss at work and he says it sounds like a rod in the bottom of the engine, like it isn't any of the valves. Anyone have any ideas on this one?

 

I don't suppose it could be a hole in an aftermarket intake?

 

no it sounds more or less like metal is tapping or something to that degree. But at the same time I am having some power loss and the engine is struggling. The intake looks solid. The sound has to be in the block somewhere.

 

you my friend have rod knock.
you wont see any metal when chaning the filter. pull your vtech solenoid housing and look for metal. there is a little screen in there i call the bearing catcher.its three 10mm bolts to remove. its the whole housing you need to remove the pressure switch is screwed in on the side and the vtec solenoid sits right on top with another set of three bolts.
