I believe you do have to pull the head.

Not to mention it'll make work 100000 X easier.

do you know what that tic might be. if it was a bent valve wouldnt feel like it had a misfire under load or at idle?

if its a lost motion assy the ticking is constat at idle and normal hwy driving. It doesn't go away until you hit vtec a quick test remove the valve cover bring each cylinder up to tdc just like you would do if your doing a valve adjustment. The rocker arm in between the valves is where your lma is located push that down if it comes back up smoothly then its good but if it comes up slowly or kinda of sticking then that's your problem you have 8 lma's in the head. Hop this helps

Bent valve....... no you would notice a huge decrease in power before the car shut off

You need to remove the rocker arms and valve springs & retainers to get them out. Use ITR LMAs as they are better than the B16A LMAs. I've seen some LMAs collapse, causing the cam to snap into pieces. If you plan on revving the motor high, and have some high profile cams and good valve springs & retainers, upgrade the LMAs to ITR ones.

I am not sure about having to take the rocker arms out. it didnt seem like it was necessary when I last looked at a head with the cams out, but i could be wrong.

i do know that the lma's can be taken out when the head is on the car

whats the price for ITR's lost motion assembly?

*** far as I know you take the cams and the rockers in order to change them
there is no need to take the spring and retainers out for this
change. and how a bad motion assembly going to break your cams?
