let's see the vtec controls
i'm getting the apexi vafc2 shipped in on thursday, and i was just thinking about a creative installation. If you have a nice vtec control installation, it'd be kool if you could post up some pics. Haven't seen a thread on this, so this could be interesting.
Are you from Modesto? I don't have a VTEC controller, but I can think of 2 pretty good places for one... remove the factory clock and mount it there, or, remove the ash tray and mount it there.
i dismantled the mount that comes with it, flipped it around and mounted it right under the radio. i used double sided tape for the mount and velcro for the actual unit so i can quickly rip it off if i ever get pulled over.

Not trying to thread jack, but why would you have to rip it down if you got pulled over? Are they illegal? Just so you know, my state/city doesnt give a **** about anything with imports.

well, i live in southern california and the cops here are pretty strict when they want to be. i just can't afford getting ticket after ticket and getting sent for inspection. it's just a big pain i would rather avoid with simple velcro

I dont blame you one bit. I am new to the Honda scene (bought my first in Sept. 05) and didn't realize how much of a pain in the *** it is to live in Cali and own/try to modify an import. I live 50 miles from nashville and this city doesnt give a ****, as long as your not speeding.
But seeing as how that is frowned upon where you live, nice trick with the velcro.

ya i'm from modesto, and yes the cops do give a shyt around here. haha Getting pretty strict down here as a matter of fact! Cops are beginning to be bigger dicks towards imports. I've had my gsr for about 2 months now and i've been pulled over twice for "looking suspicious"...
But anyways...the ashtray installation i've heard of, but i didnt think about the whole poppin the clock out and installing it there....seems koo, but i also wanna keep it hidden. That velcro sounds like a great idea also....i've seen some installed in glove compartments, but iono about that one haha...i just wanna see some pics posted up of some creative installations..
Thanks for the advice tho..

well here's a really old pix to give you an idea.

i pulled it up a little more now so there's no gap between the radio and the unit. oh.. and that shift **** is gone.. as well as the trash on the door

Nice bro...i like the way it sits. I seen a car that had the vafc installed with an in-dash kit...looked real nice. fit right under the radio...it sunk right into the center console. The only problem there is, is that it has to stay there. But ur idea about the velcro gave me a nice idea....Have it installed with an in-dash kit, but also have the velcro installed so u can rip it right out! lol not bad ah?
Also, is that a shift light above the dash?

Why not mount it in the glove box? You dont need to look at it all the time, and if you do need to see something then you can open up the box and have it mounted so you can see it.

i like the brightness of it at night and my glove box is full of crap. as for the ashtray, that looks real nice, but the controller for my shift light is stealthily mounted inside and pops up and out whenever i want to adjust it. i don't know it does look real nice in that tray though, maybe i'll think of changing it someday when i have time
but where it is now is very convenient, doesn't distract me, easy to look at, looks clean, and is easily removable.
oh and about the shift light, i'm being real. we got raided at a meet one time and the first thing the cop said to me when he looked inside my car was "is that a shift light? that looks real nice. where can i get one?"

got raided at a meet??? good god... you mean, cops busted in your meet and started writing tickets and harassing people?? thats some wild ****, had no idea it was so bad in cali... I dont think I've ever said this, but I'm almost glad that i live in VA...
I didnt think about that though, if you mount where the ashtray is, it would prob. be tough to see...but then again, how often do you have to look at it?
