Launching.
I have an automatic, that is what I'm launching. If I was going to spend the money to switch to manual, I wouldn't be asking how to launch an automatic!
I read a thread a couple weeks ago and someone was a little more specific on power braking. Just wanted some more specific input.

yea this is probably the best way.. if not just hold the brake pedal down instead of the ebrake

When you hold down the break you can only rev up to like 3000 or 3500(I forget which) before it stops building. I would think that the e-brake wouldn't hold any higher than that anyway.
Hold the brake and keep it revving, then release the brake and slam the gas simultaneously. It should give you a plenty good launch. That's probaly the only way.
Don't put it in neutral and slam it into gear, you'll wreck your tranny in no time.

ok...now in a manual transmission, what is the best thing to do? Rev up to about 3...let the clutch out just enough so it starts to engage but you arent moving anywhere. Then when the light turns green drop the clutch and slowly increase gas?

maybe they didnt think about getting a manual till it was too late. lol. oh well. when i drive my sis v6 accord, and a "fixed up/ ricer westminster civic" rolls up, all i do is power break and rev to 3000 and let go right when the light turns green and punch it and cut in front of him.

'Slowly increasing the gas' is a very good way...to go slowly....
And you can launch from a lot higher than 3k.

and why post if you're not going to help?!?
You're only being ignorant with comments like that.
Maybe he's trying to make best with what he's got - there's no reason to knock him because of it....c'mon now.
As for the post - I'll agree with the others that suggested holding the brake down while slightly hitting the gas. It does seem like the only way to properly launch an auto - Neutral drops are a big "no no". My stupid-*** cousin thought he could launch his SS 5th gen Prelude like that - he told me he could get a nice chirp and everything by revving to 3000 in neutral and then dropping it down to "drive". I told him he was an idiot and eventually his idiot-ness caught up to him and he dropped his tranny.

Automatics are used to drag all the time! Why do you think they make hi rpm stall converters and shift kits? A lot of very hi perf dragsters use auto trans. You get a quicker more positive shift. With a twinkie Honda transmission I don't know though.
Stick shift is better for longer races or rallys where you can use the clutch to negotiate the terrain.
