I theory it is an awesome intake. Tapered designs make a lot of sense, and typically do well on the dyno. I however have not seen any numbers from that specific intake.

i beleive recently i saw a dyno that showed a comptech icebox making more power than the j's, but i could use a confirmation on that one....

many other mods came into play with that comparison.

people have been singing its praises for "better throttle response" but i think its very very similar to all other hot air intakes out there. j's racing does make a carbon fiber cold air duct... but i havent seen anyone with that setup yet.

until i see a baseline on a stock car with AEM vs J's Racing, i am going to stick with my AEM.

Agreed. The J's racing intake does well for a typical short ram underhood hot air intake. With that said though, the Comptech Icebox is the best system on the market for our cars right now. Not even the AEM cold air intakes can touch the Icebox. It's an extremely well designed system.

I agree, the AEM has a slightly better high end power output, however all around the Ice box is the best.
Quiet,no chance of hydrolocking, great low, mid, and high end power ect.I would like to see the dyno figures from the new AEM v2 though.

It's my understanding that the AEM CAI is better for top end power, while the Icebox is better for midrange. Anyone else w/ input?

short ram intakes are best for high end if the air temperature is the same.

ambient temp. will always be lower w/ cold air intake.

Here's the deal. The AEM design does create more peak power, however, it is peak power at the expense of low end as well as midrange. All this intake does is shift power around in the powerband.

The Icebox, on the other hand, does not shift power like the AEM does. You get an increase in peak as well as increases in low end and midrange. The design of the intake is better. Many, many race teams use this design as opposed to the AEM. There's gotta be something to that. Example, Roger Foo, in his EG, used the stock bopx and drop in panel filter, and he then shifted to the Icebox later on in the last season he used the EG. He was using the Icebox at his win in Laguna Seca. Not to say he is God or anything, and just because he used that setup, the AEM is crap. I'm not saying that. I am saying that many other race teams (Real Time Racing in the US and all of Spoon's sponsored team over seas) use this basic concept.

an intake that would suit their needs (ie high speed touring) is somewhat different than the needs of a daily driven teg w/ weekend trips to the track. btw, u only gave examples of two teams who use the icebox. that doesnt mean that MANY MANY race teams use the comptech over the aem. they probably use other designs, neither comptech nor aem, which are better suited for their conditions, as i mentioned earlier.
