i dont own an integra....yet. now i have an 89 CRX Si. i was wondering if someone here with an integra could do me a few favors. it would be great if i could get the measurements for both of these cars but the car i want the specs for is the newest version integra(97-01?) but the gen before that would be great too because that car is also an option.
the specs i need are:
-the length of the engine compartment from firewall to the front of the radiator
-the width of the engine compartment from side to side
-the depth from the bottom of fenders to the hood
-the width of the rear trunk compartment
-the length of the trunk from back to the back of the front seats
-the depth of the trunk from the bottom of the fenders to the glass on the hatch.
i think thats all i need anyone who could get these for me would be great i am planning a little project. if i need some more information i will post later. thanx

thats not really as much information as i need. i dont need to know about power and that stuff just measurements. i have a very unique project idea and i need to know how feasible this would be before i decide to buy a car.
what exactly are you planning on doing to this car? dual engine?
how about going to a used car lot and whipping out your tape measure? they might look at you funny, but whatever...

not dual engine. i was actually planning on removing the existing motor and placing it in the back. cut out all of the rear trunk crap and but a frame in the rear to house the motor. the way that the axles hook up to the tranny and the motor all i would have to do is pretty much turn the motor around and i would have a mid engine rear wheel drive integra with near perfect weight distribution. i figure it would be an original and extremely fast street machine. i think it is pretty feasible just need the measurement to know for sure. well if u dont get the measurements maybe ill just go to the acura dealership in chicago and measure a car up. i think if the 2 door doesnt work though that the 4 door will. i believe that also has a longer wheelbase which would probably improve handling.
if thats not a huge project then I don't know what is!

BTW putting a computer in your shop area with internet access is hella cool. We just did it here at my friends (Brian_92GSR) and it is very convenient.

Dude, we only offer good advice on common stuff like putting in an air filter, this is a big job. The best advice we could offer would be off the wall random suggestions, not at all based in reality.
With that said...
Get a S2000 type V steering rack.
Learn to weld.
Pick a color that photographs well, if you do it right all the mags will be knocking down your door.

thanx if i need help i will definately come askin. and hey finally somebody from h-t thats not in cali or the east coast. well eh-d im not exactally asking for suggestions. just facts on body size of the integra. this is gonna be a reality if it does in fact fit. i am swappin a b16 in my crx in the spring and when thats done and i can drive that daily again then i am buying and integra and breakin out the welder. i know that this idea sounds crazy but if you really think about it it wont be as complicated as it sounds. think about the way the front axles connect to the tranny and the motor. now spin that around 180 and set it in the trunk with the front axles as the rear. thats all it is really. well hey i am either gonna end up with a fast and extremely well balanced acura or a cut up project car that was never feasible in the first place. i guess in a few months we will know for sure.
Ok I did some measurments. Now most of them are just simple measurements of how it sets, not taking out the interior panels or anything.
Engine bay rough measurements: 35" from firewall to radiator support, 55 Inches from inside right fender to inside left fender. More or less 22-24 inches deep.
Rear cargo area: 52" from rear panel to back of front seat. 51" from right inside panel to left inside panel. I didn't measure depth becuase I didn't want to pull the spare and you'd be cutting that away anway, but deep enough.
What I saw when looking at it from the perspective of putting the engine in the rear was that you had more than enough long wise, and if you cut out the rear sheetmetal and welded in the front clip you would have enough width.
You would have to drop the car onto the "front clip" becuase the rear would not allow the engine to be dropped in. You would also have to make a top mounted radiator, or side mounted radiators if you wanted it to work. Also you would have to move the gas tank to the front of the car.
Hope that was along the lines of what you were looking for.

You would more than likely have to move the fuel tank. What about keeping the radiator where it is at and having long hoses and a higher capacity water pump or an inline electric one? Also don't forget about the braking system. You have to leave the booster/master cylinder where they are at because of the way the brakes are actuated so you would need a long vacum line. This project sounds like a lot of fun. I wish I had a welder and knew how to weld!

phat thanx alot eh. so u think that if i cut out the inside panels in the rear of the car it would give the extra 4 inches that is missing? and i wasnt planning on running fron intercoolers. i was figuring on some other type of induction method. i know the movie is unrealistic as hell but in the F&F the eclipse has the top mount intake. and porsche uses somethin very similar in their lemans cars ao does mecedes and many others i suppose. yea some of the **** will definately be fly by wire type **** considering i dont think that anyone has ever done something like this before. it will definately be a long term project. but its cool it will be well worth it i think. yea the fuel cell thing i was thinking about the other day. i will have to move it to the fron unless there is enough room between it and the front seats. that would be a bitch in a front collision if i had to move it to the old engine bay. eh you said that there were a few inches more in the back than in the front length wise so that will work to my advantage because then i can push the motor further to the front. also if anyone here has any sugegstions on how to hook up the gearbox. i was thinking in bed last night and the gear pattern would be flipped over so where first is second would be and 4 would be in the place of 3 and 5 in place or R. thats if i just dropped it in totally as it sits now. but i imagine i could figure somethin out.
Yeah, if you cut out everything out to the outer fender you'd have more than enough room. As far as the shifting goes you might be able to work something out with the linkage, it would be a full on custom thing anyway. Using a duct from the passenger side rear widow opening would be nice, but loud!
What you need to do is scope out mid engine cars like the Lotus Elise, Toyota MR2, maybe some exotics or even the lowly corvair and fiero for inspiration.
If you look at the car long enough you can see how it might work, but you'd need to really have a gift to make it work.

yea i have thought about how u can buy the intake scoops for the MR2 that come over the rear glass and sit near the top of the car. takin out the rear passenger window was an idea too. would be loud but if i built an air box then it might be alright. the whole setup will be covered from the inside. i dont know if any of you have ever seen the renault sport clio V6. it has a cover over it that almost looks like the cover that is in the back of the crx. i would probably build somethin like that.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't turning the engine 180° and putting it the back give you one slow forward gear and five reverse gears? I think you would need to keep the engine and transmission facing the same way and craft a new shift linkage.
Either that or move the steering wheel and pedals too! That would definitely get lots of attention!

yea u r right. i made a mistake when i said that. it would be in the same direction. and now that i think about it that would also fix my problem of having the gears switched.
actually theres a place here in atl that did an NSX motor into the back of a crx. i saw it with my own eyes.. the front end was vary sparse ( radiator up there, but no hoses ran, and a fuel cell) and they had cut the rear out and fabricated a tube frame for the motor to sit in. i didnt even think about how the gearing works in it, but i can tell you they have plans of forced induction..so i cannt get the site to come in... http://www.mahdavimotorsports.com/ they might be able to help u out if u got any serious questions.
I think i saw that car on ESPN a few weeks ago on the Mothers Import(rice) tour. Looks cool. Also, i doubt it would make the car any faster, probably slower due to all the extra **** you have to add to make it work, but it would be cool with mad HP since RWD is the ****. Anyways, good luck on ur crazy project and keep us posted.

i will definately keep you people posted considering alot of technical questions i will be asking you guys since i will be doin this swap myself. i am doin my b16 swap into my crx myself. nobody around here is into cars so its me. its all good though. i figure if i am startin car work like this this early in my life i will prob bo doin this for a while. or i will get burned out. one or the other. hopefully i can make a career out of this later. but to your comment about how it would be slower. yea it is possible at first that it would be but i am planning to mod it out pretty thoroughly so i dont think power will be a problem in the end. i mean y do all the work of puttin the motor in the rear if i wasnt goin to make it fast.
