Installing shift light
Just want to double check my method of installing a shift light on my 96 Teg
I found this
Is the blue wire he is talking about this here?
What would be the best way to tap into that wire? Should I cut the wire, and splice all three together? or shave off some of the rubber and attach it that way? Any soderless connectors that would make it easier?
Then I figure I would just use the same fuse as my cd changer for power (I beleave its called AMP, or ACC, car doesn't use it stock).
Thanks in advance!
I found this
Connect that to the blue wire which sitsbetween your distributor and intake. It's almost connected to your distributor. It's a plug doohickey. It's in a plug with a bunch of other wires, but it is isolated by itself. You do it this way because you don't really have an external coil, it's inside the distributor. For lighting..pull the panel below your steering column off. Follow the wires from the light switch down. Then with a power finder, probe the wires while switching the lights on and off.

Yes, there are tach leads (blue with silver chevrons) under the dash. I forget exactly where, and I don't have a camera, but it's under the dash... Look for it, use a multimeter... the voltage will start around 12 v, and go down as you rev the engine...
I don't have a multimeter on hand, but I will look and see if there are more than one blue & silver wires down there. Anyknow know of a good ground point in the cabin off hand? If I don't have to run any wires to the engine bay, that would be much easier.
Thanks much for all the suggestions
EDIT: I looked under the dash, and found two places with blue wires.
One of them defenetly had a blue wire with silver, it was coupled with 3-4 other wires and was resting above the gas pedal area under the dash.
The other is a chip/plug with wires, and is right behind the kick plate to the left of the clutch pedal.
Is it the first set of wires?

I would rather tap into the wire from the ecu. (Most accurate way to do it). That is how the afc and vafc are wired for their digital rpm read out.

Ok, don't mean to be a PITA just wanna make sure I got this right before I start cutting wires
this is apexi's diagram for the B18C year 95.9+, they didn't have one for the B18B, so I am hoping its in the spame place. They listed a different diagram for the Automatic tranny, so it sounds like its for B18B too.

Is there anyway to plug the wire into the harness, or do I have to cut the wire and tap it in?

Checked there USA updated PDF file, its the same for B18B and B18C.
Does radio shack sell any wire tap products? Seams like it would be best to use a clip on the wire where you can plug a third wire into the tap, than cutting and sodering.

this is for a civic but its basically the same on a integra, i installed my apexi tach based off of the pics and instructions on this page: http://home.mpinet.net/t-hero/Tach!!.htm

on the integra cluster the harness isnt in the same place but its the same color i believe and setup almost identically with all the wires that do the stuff being the same colors on both cars. hope that helps.
a good ground point is down next to the clutch pedal on the cruise control brain unit....you can get a good all-metal ground on that unit without having to sand or grind anything down since its just bare metal. you'll see what im talking about and I think it even says cruise control something or another.

Thanks for the picture and info Junglistgsr, it seams like that would be the easiest place in terms of placement.. but where would you run the wire so its not visible? Seams like running it to the ECU harness would be easier to hide?
I found some wire taps you can buy, gonna run to Radioshack to get them. You just clamp them over the wire with plyers and plug the second wire into it.

where are you mounting the light? there are a couple places you can run wires to not be seen around there.....tell me where your putting it and i'll describe where the wires could go
Really not sure, I am thinking below the cruise control button-ish, or in the area that is below the cdplayer on the center console.
Its a pretty big light, its about 4" long! :D

you could run the wires up under the steering wheel without having to see them...or out the back of the dash up under like where the pedals are...there is access to run wires from the cluster down through around there....so running into the cluster is real easy and you can hide the wires pretty much any combo of ways, better than running into the engine bay or ECU IMO. I dont like splicing ECU wires.
Ok, I have the power and ground wired, the light flashes when I turn the ignition so it is working I just have to tape a wire for the tach.
I have the gauge bezel off, and there are two plugs. One of them has a blue wire with silver stripes, and a blue and white wire. The other plug just has a blue and white wire.
Is it the blue and silver striped wire that I want to tap?

I tapped the blue and silver wire, and it works! Woot!
It seams to be 500rpm slow, but I think that could be my light itself. Its a generic, for any car type light. Not hard to fix, I set it for 500rpm less than redline and took a spin around the block.
Thanks for your help, now I just gotta go and hide the wires
