Default identify tranny

im going to look at a gsr tranny tomaorw, how can i tell if its a gsr or its a ls?

The 94+ gsr tranny will say s80 or y80 while an ls will say S1 or YS1.

wrong my ls tranny is a 95 and its says s80 on it.

It should have a tag on it with a s/n you can get that # checked out at a dealer or something otherwise you'de have to split the tranny to find out.

Yeah i just looked at my 99 ls tranny and it says s80 as well

A5D is also on the tranny close to where it meets the block.

y1 s1 ys1 j1 a1 are all cable trannys y1 is jdm b16 s1 is jdm b16 and usdm ls, j1 is also jdm b16 ,ys1 is both usdm ls and jdm b16 . s80 and y80 are ls and gsr and type-r the only way to really know is to crack the trannys open and start counting in this case. but y1 , j1 is jdm only so and s1 is both so is ys1 but these are cable trannys . the s80, y80 are hydro trannys
