Default LS/GS-R/Type-R Transmissions. the dillema!

I have an Integra LS turbo that runs a 12.6 @ 110 in the 1/4 so far, first runs on slicks I got that. Anyways, My tranny is toast and I need ot know the differences among the LS, GS-R, and Type-R tranny other than the obvious.

I know the Type-R has a limited slip in it. I do a lot of drag racing on the street (yeah I know its dumb) but I also like to do a lot of highway speed racing and everything.

I need to know whta the real differences are as far as what I will see when I am driving if I were to sweitch to a GS-R or Type-R tranny. PLEASE HELP!

Default LS/GS-R/Type-R Transmissions. the dillema!

I found out more info:

GS-R and Type-R have shorter frist and 2nd gears (lil quicker accel) and longer 4th and 5th (lil better top end) but over all the equality of the trannys:LS, GS-R and Type-R is close other than the Type-R having a LSD.

Anyone else have some words of wisdom on this issue?

well, the most noticeable difference is the gearing between the three. an itr tranny has, by far the shortest gears. pretty much this means you will have alot better acceleration. this will obviously help you for drag racing, however, you will be revving higher while highway driving. if you don't do alot of highway driving, i say go with the itr tranny.

GSR and LS have same first and 2nd gear
ITR has same first gear as GSR and LS

GO there, it will help you out a lot.

Thats weird cause the dealership told me that first and second are shorter and the 4th and 5th are longer. Yet on that site, GS-R and Type-R are shorter all across the board.

The shorter gearing of the GS-R or Type R trannies is not good for a turbo'd car. You will end up getting too much wheelspin. You're better off rebuilding your LS tranny and swapping in an LSD.

What about the fact that I will have competition engineering traction control and I run slicks at the track? Usually on the street I just try to launch it low Rpms and all that. of course this is all before I ahve the traction control.

If I get a GSR tranny, I should be fine cause it has the same ratios in first and second gear. Teh good part is 3rd gear being shorter should feel stronger cause it is shorter as well as 4th, 5th.

The Type-R tranny, though having shorter gears all across the board, I would likely nto spin as bad cause it has the LSD in it.

correct me if Im wrong but I think I am understanding this thing now.

I do, do a lot of highway driving though too.

I kind of asked this question under another topic but it's burried now. I've had my gsr for about 5 weeks now and the guy who I bought it from had every service receipt and at about 102k miles (109k right now) he paid around $2k for a new tranny. I forget the reason he told me why but I'm starting to think it might be an LS tranny.

The reason why is because I've read so many people have posted their 5th gear rpm's at 80 mph and it's at 4000. When i'm at 80 mph it's only at 3500-3600. Is this because I have a LS tranny or were 4dr gsr trannies diff than coupes? Also, if my assumption is true, how much power am I losing? And at which gears. Thanks

you want long gears to stay in boost!! this is why some turbo gsr owners have ls transmissions.

4-doors and coupes are the same.. In 5th gear im at almost exactly 4,000 rpms at 80.. and the ratio is the same as most coupes... Its not cuz its a 4dr

I'd rebuild the LS tranny if I'm turbo

Well from all the calculations the GSR tranny is ok to use cause its not that different at all. Just a couple gears but its better acceleration which could be good for draging.
