Default I got sent to the REF

I was cruising in El Cajon, when Mr. 5-0 decided to pull me over . He said that my exhaust was excessively loud. I told the cop that I have a legal exhaust and is under 95 despiles. The exhaust that I have is a Greddy SP2. Then the cop asked me to pop my hood,(I unhooked the cable that goes to my hood just for this occasion) I told him that the cable broke. After that he had me try to open the hood for about five minutes then two other cop cars pulled over. After that I couldn't delay them anymore. When I popped my hood it was like Christmas for the cop. He started to ask me questions like" Do you know if these Gears are adjustable?" " Is this fuel regular adjustable?" " Have you ever been to the REF?" . The cop knew exactly what he was looking for! Then the cop told me to sit tight because he had to take pictures of the engine. After all that the cop acted like we were really good friends and he was doing me a favor by sending me to REF. Here's my question has anybody ever gone to the REF? Can I sell my car to a friend and later have my friend sell it back to me? Can I non-op my car?
I have b16 obd-1 is this smog able?
Please help!!!

They cannot force you to open your hood without a search warrant.

Cop: Do you mind if I look around.
You: Yes. I do mind. What are you looking for? Do you have a warrant?

This is pretty much true everywhere. It is exactly like opening up your trunk.

You have to appreciate the fourth ammendment of the Constitution.

you should have asked or for a warrant for probable cause, you exhause was the cause of the ticket so he should not have been able to pop your hood

anytime I get asked to pop my hood I ask for a warrant or what thier probable cause is for needing to seach under my hood

being a dick will get the cop mad but he cant violate your rights period

your b16a is REFable if you take the time to make sure you have all the same smog equip/ecu as the del sol's b16a3

you can also pay it of..~$300

or (from what i heard) you can "sell" the car out of state to get rid of the ref ticket

its not that hard to get your car to pass ref..and at the rate that the cops are giving ref tickets out here is socal i would recommend doing it the right way just for the piece of mind..who knows you might just end up getting pulled over..cops

what do they usually say back to you? or what should I say if something like that comes up? ive had a few friends get their hoods popped.. we always think we're screwed by the probable cause part. sorta like.. they have probable cause to pop our hood cause we are reluctant to pop our hood.

i havent been pulled over in my car yet though so im just asking for future reference

say you want probable cause

if they say that your exhaust is loud ask them why your engine has anything to do with the the way your exhaust is loud, because it doesnt

the 4th ammendment states that there shall be no search or seizure without porbable cause or a warrant

they honestly cannot search your car period unless they have a hard evidence against you

plus any evidence they obtain without probable cause, or your personal consent is not usable against you in court

they must document every step they take in their police report

if you run no cat and a cheap muffler on a stock single cam it will be loud as hell

a modified motor is not much louder than a stock one with the same exhaust system

It isnt the same. The modified exhaust gives "probable cause" in this situation. He had to open the hood.

never went. i have a ls/vtec surely won't pass
if ur planning on swapping motors like that make sure u have money to back it up when the ticket comes. I just didn't want to go through the hassle so i just paid for it.

a few months ago i got pull over for modified exhaust. The PIG made me pop my hood and gave me a ticket for modified exhuast and intake on my Prelude. I was suppose to go to the state referree but i ended selling the car. My reason for selling the car was not for the ticket. Anyways, when the ticket came, the fine was $464 if i don't take care of it or go to the state referree to get it smog an dpay $10 fine instead. I went to court and told the judge that i sold the car and the ticket got dismiss. U can sell ur car to ur freind and then get it back, the ticket might be clear.

if you really believe you wont pass and dont want to go through all the bs and hassles...just pay off the bail...you receive it in the mail in a few weeks. I got pulled over last fall, turbo and a cracked ringland, I just decided to pay bail bc i didnt have time to work on my car

If the cop is being a dick, roll up the windows, get out of the car, and lock the doors. The cop will need to produce a warrant or forcibly enter your vehicle. They cannot make you open part of your vehicle to expose something that is not visible. They can hold your car at the scene until a warrant is produced. However, that is a huge hassle on their part. If you willingly open your hood, anything that they do find is admissible.
