How to test your VSS

My speedo doesn't work and I am pretty sure it is the VSS, is there a way I can test it to make sure that is it before I buy a new one?

i just replaced mine, and when i took it out. whati noticed was i broke the entire bracket. just tryy taking it out and look @ it first. go to a junkyard and buy used. they are cehap.
