how easy is it to replace the outer cv boot of an integra ?
Hi,
How easy is it to replace the outer cv boots on my integra ? i took it to the dealer and they said its started to crack and it would take 370$ to replace just the outer boots. I was wondering how much effort it takes if i do it myself. is it doable ?
Please let me know.
Thanks in advance

I did both boots for the past two days lol. Im gonna say that it is pretty stright forward and doable, but have patients. The circle clips on the axle made me pretty damn frustrated, but in the end I put 2 new boots on for about $28. If you need any help or have question feel free to pm me.

I vote for do it your self if you have tools that is the only hard thing is going to be removing the lower ball joint and breaking loose the axle nut. If you need instructions pm me your email address I can send you complete instructions.
If they are going to charge you that much you might as well just buy a whole new axle (cheaper than their price for a boot) and put the new axle in yourself.
As to "Is it easy?" Dunno. List off your mechanical abilities and tools and then we can tell you.

I think is takes an extra hour if you are slow like me and screw up lol, but now im fast.
$20+1 hour 30 min.> $75 + 30min.
Im a poor highschool student so this is a no brainer for me

new axle about 70-120 shipped depending on brand and if it is re-manufactured and like I said earlier I can email you the instructions. Not that hard to do boot is like 10 bucks or something. Th thing is your pretty much going to do the same thing just replacing the boot vs replacing the axle. I said it's about the same amount of time to replace a boot vs replacing the entire axle. Thats just from my own experiences though.
I checked with the acura dealership and they told me the axle is 185 $ a piece & the outer boot is 32 $ a piece. Where can I get the axle at a reasonable price ? any aftermarket shop etc ??
Just use the phone book and start calling around all the local shops. If I remember correctly I payed about $130 at United Auto Supply for the abs ones. Buy a grease packet just in case. You can always haggle with them. You will more then likely need a friend and a long metal bar for this DIY.
I'm also sure that the boots should be included. It's been a while.

hey whats up man in new to the site, i have a '99 ls pretty stock but recently ive been hearing this loud knock sound that comes from my passenger tire when i put it in reverse and turnleft. i think its the cv boot but you tell me what you think it is, and if i should change them out anyways. also i have a automatic tranny in it right now so does that make it harder to switch out.
if your hearing a loud knock then your axle is pretty much gone. Its pretty easy to see if its your cv boot that ripped open or not. Just lay down in front of your car and look at your cv boots by the tires and if there is grease all over the place then your boot ripped. But since yours is already starting to knock the grease might be gone and you might just have a majorly ripped cv boot. Just get a new axle.

Just replace it yourself if you're at all mechanicall inclined. 30 minutes per side. Really easy.Gonna wanna do it soon too if its already knocking like that.

I have seen do it yourself kits, where you would just cut off the old CV boot, and this kit sells you a new CV boot, and you would zip tie it on. I have the same problem as you but I am just going to get new axles.
Just a thought. Don't know how well this works, but its cheaper.
Good luck fixing it.

I find it more easy to just change your axles,
I have cheap auto-zone with lifetime warrentee,
About every 6 months I change my axles, dude to being slammened
It only takes about 30 min and I'm done.
Its about time I get myself some real axles though.
