hey guys, newbie to the forums.
I am a proud owner of a 2 door, 5speed, 95 ls with 72000 miles. i just bought it a couple of days ago from an engineer at lockheed. car looks and drives like it was brand new off the factory. only thing is that the top of the roof and trunk has oxidation? clear cloat coming off? from the beating of the sun. He had it parked for 2 years he said.
Well anyone know how to clean this up? what are the proper steps to get this off? otherwise the whole car and paint looks brand new. just parts of the trunk and roof has the oxidation. thanks for any help!

The only solution is to repaint those bad areas. Go get some quotes or visit the painting forum and do your homework and try it yourself.

I have a 94 GSR that had the same problem. I had tried to just sand it and clear coat it again but it looked like crap. Whatever you do, DO NOT get a MACCO Paint job! You MUST sand the clearcoat down by hand do not use an orbital sander. Basically you are roughing up the surface for paint, but also removing any loose clearcoat and or paint. Then Wash the car with a strong degreasing soap or buy that degreaser stuff at the paint store. Then Spray with Identical Color 2 coats should do good. Then Clear Coat, 2 coats is good as well. Simply follow the directions for dry times and spray time separations. If you spray too many coats of clear it may pool and or drip. Most paints can be cleared about 1 hour after the last application. When spraying the color or clear, the paint or clear should be sprayed before the last coat dries. At 80 Degrees its about a 15-25 minute flash time. These directions are just some guidelines from 2 years ago from painting my civic and my gsr both with the same problems. In fact if you dont have any experiance using a LVHP gun then just spend the money and get it done right. 1,000- 2000 will get you a damm good paint job. Depending on the amount of body work.
Also be sure to shave your rear window sprayer and maybe your antenna. It looks hella better without them. Make sure they Weld the holes shut NOT BONDO!!!

that thing is bad. i was going to say that you could just buff it, but that'll take/hide minor sun fading. but for you i would say to go around and see how much it'll cost to get it re-painted.
if your pretty good with a rattle can, go get your car color matched at a auto-paint store and do what you got to do. you'll probably find more things in the paint section.

u know if thats black, u can get it matched and with some skills with rattle cans. it could come out pretty good. ive done a few trunks this way and look almost stock. at least it will better than the oxidation for only 20 bucks or so for sand paper, primer, paint, tape, etc etc. jsut do it for quick fix and cheap. save up for a good paint job down the road.

all that clear has to come off... its bad and if you paint over it... the bonding element of the original clear might give way and your new paint will peel.

Looks exactly like my car. Check out my thread in A/C. A repaint is the only way to fix that problem. I doubt a buffing could bring that back to life.
I'll paint it if the money's right.
Check out my thread in A/C. Mine turned out pretty well. You can always come down to Reno and have my shop take care of it.
But seriously, there's really no band-aid fix for it. It needs to be resprayed.
Good luck!
