i have had a family member change my oil back when they came to visit

the problem is

-i dont remember which brand and grade he used or if it was synthetic or non synthetic

-i'm running low, almost to the lowest dot about | | till the lowest dot

- is it good to throw in a quart of so____ and so________ before my next change?

help please

car is a obd1 gsr

 

yes its ok to add oil between changes, i use 10w30 oil, add syntech blend, it wont hurt it

 

do another oil change. either use all synthetic or all non synthetic. dont mix the two. im not sure if you will damage your motor to mix them but why chance it.

 

i would do one of two things. either ask the family member what they put in it or drain it and install what you normally run. and yes, it is quite normal for a gsr to use oil. how the engine is driven has a major impact. if you rarely shift above 5k a tight gsr can go the entire 3k without using a quart. if you hit 8k every time you have the chance it will be quite a good deal more.

 

i just ended adding half a quart of mobil 1 synthetic 5w-30

so w/e just temporary until i do a full tune up

what is a good daily oil that includes semi beating (rarely, say once a week of running it)?

5w40?
10w40?

i dont know, a guy told me to run 10w40 because i have a vtec engine

should i just run royal purples? and what grade

royal purple say increase power and MPG seems tempting
