Motor worked fine before and all of a sudden it's bogging when i hit vtec. Tried swapping ecu and vtec solenoid and problem still occured. adjusted the tps sensor and also the timing which was off by a lil and still happened. But when i unplug the vtec solenoid motor will go up 8k rpm fine but throws a check engine light. Any help would be appreciated.

Just stating the obvious, but... did you check your oil level?

 

yes oil level is fine, also did a new oil change just to be on the safe side.

 

Change fuel filter

That doesn't make sense though. If it were a fueling issue it would do it with or without the solenoid plugged in
Did you check the solenoid screen?
Reconnect the solenoid, erase the codes, take it out for a few drive cycles, and check the codes

 

Another possibility is low oil pressure, since vtec is engaged off of base oil pressure. If it's low, it may be going in and out of vtec.
Check your base oil pressure

 

Or could be the pressure switch

 

ive experienced problems with vtec when i had too low oil and then most recently the car felt like there was no vtec without bogging and oil might have been slightly low but not super low. I topped off oil and drove for a while and it felt fine after.

If you swap the solenoid you would still need to reset the ecu to be sure right?

 

If the level is good, check the pressure

 

thanks guys i've checked the screen on the solenoid it was fine, used a friends solenoid and still the same we checked the oil level plenty of time.. im on the mark on the dipstick the full mark. i also tried swapping injectors out cause someone told me to try that and that didnt help at all..

 

we swapped out the solenoid and pressure switch...

 

But did you check oil PRESSURE?
