ok so i was driving home from work tonight and went through an intersection and my car shut off and wouldnt start back up. im kinda leaning towards the fuel pump but im not sure, i drove on low gas for maybe to long? and might have burned it up but im pretty sure i cant hear it prime. the car tries to turn over but wont. i hear the main relay click and i know the starter is good cause its pretty much brand new. i need help badly, im gonna look more into it tomorrow, but any advice would help, and if theres anymore questions about the situation ask away. thanks!

I had the same thing happen a few years ago, turned out to be my ignition harness (under the steering column from key cylinder to fuse box) had fried. It may have had something to do with my alarm which had wires going to the ignition harness for starter kill. Do you have an alarm on your car?
In my case, nothing wired to the Key On (engine run) position would work - things like windows, sunroof, turn signals, wipers. Things wired to the accessory position, like the radio and clock, would still work fine.

When this happens to me a couple of things I do right off the bat: using a spark plug I carry in my car I disconnect a spark plug wire plug the spark plug in and crank the car and see if I get a spark if so then ignition working ok. If not then I take the dizzy cap off and check my rotor to make sure its secure and not loose or lost the screw, if tight then I have someone crank the engine and I check to see if rotor turns if so then timing belt has not snapped or lost alot teeth (eventually you need to check to see if all is in time i.e. cams and the crankshaft pullley on tdc mark)
If you are getting a spark then go to check for fuel. I know You can hear the whine from the fuel pump if all is working properly but I like to make sure fuel is going to my fuel rail. If the engine is cold I go straight to the fuel filter and release pressure by loosening the top little bolt on the big bolt that connects the fuel line to the filter then I remove the fuel line at the fuel rail and using a cup or bottle (make sure its not styrofoam--**** will melt immediately)have someone turn the ignition to "on" (dash lights go on etc) and make sure fuel is coming out--make sure that your eyes are well out of harms range. If no fuel then you need to find out if its an the master relay (helms will tell you how to bypass or check) check to see if you are getting power to the fuel pump and if both pass the test then your last culprit is the fuel pump. Someone mentioned ECU possiblility but if you are getting everything to the master relay I believe you can rule the ecu out but then again I have not yet run across one where the ecu was the problem. If you don't have a helms pm me.ENJOY

LOL, thats funny.....I posted the same thing a couple days ago but in the all motor forum. I was also driving up to an intersection and my car just died. It would crank, but it wouldn't fire up. I could hear my fuel pump prime, but my car simply wouldn't start up. I got it towed home, tried starting it again and nothing......looked at everything in the morning and sure enough, my car started. I was glad it wasn't anything internally (blown headgasket, timing belt, etc), but still had my scratching my head. I pulled off my distributor cap to find rust dust (from the bearing inside the distributor). I bought a new cap and rotor but when I was trying to take off the rotor, it seems to be corroded and it won't come off worth a damn! Posted pics and people were telling me its probably cheaper in the long run to just buy a new distributor. My new distributor should arrive on Friday so hopefully that will be it. Could be the same thing in your situation.... People have told me its either one of the following; distributor, cap & rotor, igniter, ignition module, or fuel pump.
heard about this from people...and for a fact its your ignition coil...i bought a distributor to rebuild and the story that came with it was that the car just died while driving...and after taking everything apart..had the coil checked for voltage and ding ding..it was the coil...baught a new coil from napa and never had a problem with the distributor ever since
