Headlights Dim While Driving
I have a 99 GSR and the headlights dim when I put on the brakes, cooling fan turns on and just while driving. It does happen more often when I slow down and then brightens when I speed up. It has happened for a little while, but has gotten much worse after I had my clutch replaced.
I have checked the ground wires (for the headlights), I have a new battery and the alternator is putting out 75 amps.
Any suggestions will be very appreciated...

my car does the exact same thing...don't know why. I took it to the dealership, they replaced teh battery, and it still does it. When i'm at idle to windows go up slow, but if i rev it they go up quicker..haha
well, the same thing happened to my hummer, i just replaced the compressor which inflates the tires. and now my a/c is cold again! that fixed most of the rough idle surging problems.

Check ALL your ground wires--and not just that they are there, but that they are clean (no corrosion) and tightly connected. If they're dirty just unbolt them, clean them off with a wire brush or something, and put them back. It also couldn't hurt to upgrade the factory grounds, since they're really wimpy.
yea... i'm under the impressionthat its the alternator as well... especially more so on my car becuase i havent changed it ever and for the last oh 70k miles i've been bumpin my system like crazy so the drain on it is kinda big. I think i may need to get a cap.
my HIDs dont dim
It could be result of a bad alretnator, but since your car is relatively new, I doubt it. Its probably a bad ground somewhere off of the engine.

no need to check all your grounds...its just the way it is...when headlights are on...engine is spinning slower generating less power and therefore the alternator will be under some stress therefore causing power supply to go lower (like windows going down slower, or headlights dim while at idle.) Its like tryin to roll all your windows down at once...it's slower because it requires more power to do these things at the same time. But if the engine is revving high, the belts spin the altnerator causing more power to meet the power demands. Hope this helps and make a lil bit of sense

when im at idle...and i turn the steering wheel...you can see the rpms go down a little, then go back up...or when i turn my a/c on...the rpms go down then back up....only WHEN IM IDLE! anyone know? is it the alternator?

Well that is all normal. Everything electrical is run off the alternator, which is run off the engine. Put a load on the alternator and you put a load on the engine, which will bring the RPMs down a little. If the RPMs are low to begin with (at idle), this means the alternator will not generate full voltage and your lights will dim, etc. Now if it happens while you're driving, at higher RPMs (which I thought the original post was implying), you may have a problem.
