Whats the overall opinion on heat wrapping the b-pipe of my DC header, Ive got mixed answers from friends. It is a street driven 2001 LS. Ya or Na?
ok, here's the deal. the BIGGEST reason heat wraps destroy headers is because it was wrapped IMPROPERLY!!. There has to be at least a 1/4 inch overlay in the wrap other wise you will end up w/ "gaps" in the wrap which get wet and then rust the header and u will not be able to see it because it is under the wrap. The wrap HAS to be tight and cover everything your trying to cover up. I've ran thermo-tec wrap on all 4 of my cars (daily drivers/auto-x''ers.CSP & DSP) and have never had a problem. My dad has a racing beat header on his rx7 and it has never rusted or had any problems. I have people that have them on thier turbo's and again, nothing has happened. The f'd up headers are the ones that were improperly wrapped. hope this helps and if you wrap it, i highly suggest thermo-Tec. Oh yeah, if you do happen to have a problem w/ your header while it was wrapped, the majority of company's will tell u that if u wrap the header, your warranty is void so be careful.
