header installation tips?
wuddup guys im installing a 4-2-1 greddy header on my 98 GSR and this is only my 2nd bolt on... anybody have any tips for me or any problems i might encounter? As far as im concerned unbolt and bolt right? Also will i need any other tools than a socket wrench and sockets? and one mor questions i had ***will i need to torque the bolts that go on the cyclinders or any other spots need torquing?***
Make sure you wipe down the header before starting the car or the oils from your skin will burn and mark the header. Dont torque the bolts down too tight they snap easy. Its probably a good idea to get a couple new gaskets to make sure it doesn't leak. You might need to take the radiator out, it made my header swap 100 times easier.
With that being said your header sucks. It isnt gonig to provide any power gain whatsoever and will serve its best purpose as a waste of money.

You'll need a wrench big enough to remove your O2 sensor. Easiest way is to unplug it from the car, remove your manifold, install O2 into the new header, then install the header. Be careful with the bolts at the CAT. Sometimes they're seized on there really good. May need to heat them to get them off. Do the CAT bolts first, then if they're seized, you can take the car somewhere (if you need to heat the bolts) without having the reinstall other bolts first.
You can find the torque specs by searching a bit, I don't know them off hand. As long as they're tight they will be fine, just don't over tighten.

Spray the O2 sensor and all bolts down with penetrating oil the night before so $hit unbolts easier...take your radiator out or the fans will give you hell. And I personally agree, your wasting money and time with that header.

Is your DC Header for a 97-98 Type R, part# ahc 6504 ?
If so, the torque is 27 ft/lbs and you should start tightening from the center and progress outward. One of the bolts is blocked by the bend of the pipe and you will have to estimate how tight to tighten it.
I have an all aluminum single core radiator and oem fan shrouds. I did not have to remove the radiator.

i think u have the wrong header if it doesnt have the o2 bung. if u install it without pluging in ur o2 ur car will run rich...so like he said...youre screwed!
but the greddy header is like 100% bolt on and street legal it should definitly have the spot for an 02 sensor im starting to think my ow sensor is on my cat. no way greddy wouldnt put a spot for the o2 sensor
ur not screwed, its just these people only know of their swapped LS chasis's. 94-99(i think the last was 99) GSR's came with the O2 sensor on the beginning of the cat. My 94 GSR is just like urs, my DC sports 4-1 header does not have a O2 bung because the O2 is on the beginning of the cat. Only those certain year GSR's came like that, all the other LS's and ITR's came with the O2 sensor on the end of the header/manifold piping. Greddy has done their R&D, if u bought the header for ur original chasis/motor, then they produced it to come how its supposed to be and will fit. This just means its less work for u to do to swap the header on. Im not sure if u have a 1 piece or 2 piece design 4-2-1, but if it is the 2 piece design u do not need to remove the radiator or the fans to do this(although it may give u a little more room), if it is the 1 piece design, i would recommend removing the radiator and fan.
Since there are still people posting things that U DONT NEED!!!:

do u see how ur 98 GSR DOES NOT have the O2 sensor on the exhaust manifold, just like u will NOT have a O2 bung on the header either(given that by ur posts is that u got the correct year one for ur motor) because the O2 sensor is originally on the cat on ur vehicle.
Further more for these people spreading incorrect info:

Do u see #8 and #3, yes that is the original setup for a 98 GSR, with no O2 on the manifold and with the O2 sensor on the cat.

94-99 dont have o2 sensor on the header
Have to agree with MenaceL.A.671. On my 95 teg LS I don't have a O2 sensor on the exhaust manifold but there is one right before the cat... If your original set up doesn't have an O2 sensor on the exhaust manifold then your doing everything right. Torch spec is 23Ft-Lbs, IAW with the manual.
