Default header help

ok...i already know what most of u guys are gonna say but here it goes. i have a 98 gsr circle track mini stock. im looking to buy a header and dont wanna spend all out for one. its just gonna be used at the track. are the ebay cheapies any good at all for performance wise. or am i better off with stock manifold? i dont care about how long it will last or how cheap its made. performance in mind only. 12:1 compression skunk2 cams

ill be running 3rd gear at about 7800rpm. what style header is good for that. torque is very important at 6000rpm coming out of corner.

also interested in used peices.

Better off buying a used good header. The ebay ones are little bettr than stock but the welds are not to good and the flow isnt all that good either

Ill second the buying a good used header. I would say look for a 4-2-1 as opposed to 4-1 since you want midrange torque.

With the ebay headers it kind of depends on what day they were made on. Monday or Friday and you have a problem, but tuesday-thursday and your fine. Lol I don't recommend them though.

Even if you find a badly dented one, you can always cut the bottom out and weld new pieces in where the dent once was. I've done that once before, it was no big deal.

the ebay 4-2-1 cheapies should give u a lil bit more power over the stock gsr manifold.. if youre going to be in high rpms, id look more for a 4-1 header.. u can get the jdm itr 4-1 replica header for pretty cheap now a days..

4-2-1 will give more mid range torque. 4-1 is for the top end hp

You will be wasting you money if you invest in a cheap, POS, worthless EBAY header. Picking up 3whp with some crappy flowing header isn't worth the $200 price tag. Invest in a JDM ITR.

On a side note: The motor is high compression with with cams and you are using the stock cast exhaust manifold?

I would also suggest to search endlessly through the for sale forum and maybe you will find a good deal on a used quality header.

There are options like the Hytech or SMSP replica headers that give good power, however, when it comes to quality, welds, material, etc, they simply dont compare to the real thing.

You are right, but you forget that the ITR was built to be a track car. It is one of the best 4 cyl track cars in the world, and it uses a 4-1 header.

At 6k rpms out of a corner, a 4-1 header will do its job. There are also a lot of people selling JDM ITR headers all over the place on this and other forums for pretty cheap. Great OEM quality, great flow, and good options like the skidplate and heatshield
