Header Help
Im looking to buy a new header for my 98 gs-r. i want to get a dc sports but im undecided on which dc to get. they make 4-1, 4-2-1 1-piece, 4-2-1 2-piece. basically i want to remove my cats. i have a apexi world sport catback and i want to know which header will remove the cat and bolt up to the exhaust. thanks.
There is no DC header that bolts directly to a cat-back exhaust system. You will need to run a test pipe, or a custom piece of exhaust piping if you wish to eliminate your catalytic converter.
Go to http://www.dcsports.com and they have a FAQ that tells you just about anything.
Here's an excerpt:

This is because the spring-loaded bolts used to connect the catalytic converter to the header system are often replaced with un-sprung bolts that can stress the flanges and cause failure. If you insist on replacing your catalytic converter (for off highway use only) with a replacement pipe, we highly recommend using the factory spring-loaded bolts.</TD></TR></TABLE>
This should lead you to assume that all their header products bolt to a catalytic converter.

Well, what type of goal are you trying to reach? You have an Apexi World Sport system, which doesn't have extremely large diamater piping, plus it has a chambered muffler. This leads me to believe, you are not interested in a high horsepower application. However, I could be wrong since you want to eliminate your catalytic converter.
I ran a WS exhaust even though I was running a high horsepower car. However, I wanted a low key exhaust that was quiet. I figured I could afford to lose 30-50hp top end when I was making near 400. Most people do not go my route with an exhaust choice, but it happens, so that's why I was asking.
In general, you want to remember that:
4-2-1 gives you more low to mid range power.
4-1 gives you high end power.
The one piece vs. two piece just saves some weight.
There are some other factors that play into it as well if you're trying to extract every ounce of power. These can include, but are not limited to flange design, piping length/bends, collector size/design, etc.

basically im probably never gonna turbo or charge my car. just all motor basics h/i/e, cam gears, pulleys, vtec controller, fuel regulator, intake manifold and thats about it. i want a quiet exhaust because where i live cops are writing tickets out like crazy for exhausts. so i choose the world sport. but i can sell it to someone i know so what exhaust would u recommend for my setup thats still somewhat quiet. i was thinking a greddy evo or skunk2 catback? but not sure
