Default Header Cracked Again??

I've heard that cracked exhaust manifolds are common on GSRs, but on average, how long should they last? I just bought my '98 GSR 1 year ago from a dealer w/ only 32k miles. I heard the tell-tale buzzy sound around 3k-4k rpm back in December, and sure enough, it was a cracked exhaust manifold. Acura replaced for free (still under warranty). Well now the car has 6 days left on it's warranty and I've started hearing the same buzzy sound around 4k rpm or so. I've only put around 7k miles on since the last one was replaced! Is this common?

Sorry to jack your thread but i have that same rattle buzzing whatever you wanna call it comin from the A pipe but i dont wanna spend the money for a DC sports header (mainly because lack of money) and not looking to get any real gains just looking to fix that sound and leak. Would some cheep header work to do what i am looking for such as this offbrand header i found on ebay? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...33631 i know the DC headers are prolly the best ones you can buy at a decent price but i really dont ahve 300 bucks to drop on a header when i am not really lookin for any power gains just lookin to fix that leak. That header on ebay would cost me less than replacing with factory stuff. Thanks for the help guys

BTW: It's probably your heat shields are loose and are vibrating against exhaust/headers/cat (usually around cat)... very common... Check heat shields... Save yourself money... haders should not crack man... unless you bottomed out on them...

I don't remember ever bottoming out - maybe a slight scrape several months back, but that's it. All I know is that it is making the same sound it made last time, and as soon as they replaced the header, it stopped for four months (until now). It also only buzzes between 3.5k-4k rpm, and does it in every gear (I can slightly hear it going 80 in 5th @4k rpm).

Tachman, I don't know about your situation, but I have a 97GSR, and had an emissions recall (CA, not sure if it went nationwide), but when I took it in at 88K miles, they replaced the rattling A-pipe, then extended the exhaust system components to 7 years/150K miles. If you had service at Honda, then those parts should be warranted for at least 1 year, and I don't think your 7K miles should be over any kind of implied mileage warrantee. Your overall car warrantee may be running out, but those service and repair items will carry their own warrantee if the dealer installed them. Check with either the Service Manager or American Honda Corporation to find out more info...

You guys are right. And - it turns out that the headers are considered "powertrain" so they are covered 7 yrs. which would be May, 2005. I'll have Acura replace them for now (since they are paying), but if this keeps happening, I may go with aftermarket headers eventually. I'm looking into getting a Comptech Icebox soon. Will headers do me any good performance-wise with stock exhaust? I'm thinking I might just wait until I upgrade the exhaust down the road to get non-Acura headers.
