Hard to start on cold engine
Hello,
"HARD TO START ON COLD ENGINE" but if the engine met the normal or warm temp, the car runs smoothly and okay.
Fo almost 8days using my 1994 honda integra(1.6liters), dual carburator type and not fuel injected. I had a hard starting during on cold engine. I need always to keep my feet pushing the gas pedal near the floor in able to start it. When the engine is running, the idle is very low around 0.40-0.60pm which is abnormal. And it should be 1.3-1.5rpm because the engine is cold. Also some black smoke came out on the muffler. The engine is a liitle bit shaking on cold engine. It gives me a headache.
Also why is it the engine oil becomes color black very fast although i just changed the oil and filter 10days ago. I totally drained the old oil and put a new engine oil and filter. Is it because of hard starting on cold engine that can cause black smoke?
But after driving my car about 20-25mins and the engine becomes warm, the normal idle becomes normal to 0.90rpm. Also the black smoke has gone. Engine has no shake and the car is running smoothly.
May i know please the solutions for this problem?
PLEASE HELP.......
PLEASE HELP.......
i need please your quick reply.
Many, many Thanks

for the car being hard to start on a cold engine, i'd look more into the fuel side as you said you have to push the gas which to me seems like not enough fuel getting to the engine.
-i'd replace the fuel filter, they are pretty cheap and easy to do. ( i had an issue like this and the car would have a hard time to start and sometimes die on idle, replaced it and it went away)
- put a bottle of injector cleaner into the car on your next fill up
-it could also be a fuel pump going bad
now on the idle issue, I wouldn't worry so much about the IACV as thats more of the idle during the engine being warm( I may be wrong on this one so if someone knows correct me, but you should still take it off and clean it)
i'd look into the fitv( fast Idle thremo valve). Clean it like i previous stated for the IACV there is a guide on here somewhere
also if your not at the best idle when the car is warm i'd look into timing, retard or advance your timing by moving the distrubutor and see how it goes.
I do not know about the oil or the smoke sorry

I disagree with rlacsamana1989, although not about the fuel filter, it's always good to replace it.
He also missed the point that it is a carbureted engine, not fuel injected, " dual carburetor type and not fuel injected".
To me it sounds like engine is running rich on cold start up, especially if the "black smoke" smells like gas, [unburnt hydrocarbons], stepping on the gas opens the butterfly's, [throttle plates] allowing for more air, leaning out out the A/F ratio.
I would have the carorators looked at/"tuned". 94

indeed i am. but only half
and fcm is pretty knowledgeable so he probably knows more about this topic. I was just giving you ideas I did when I had the same issue but I did not have the smoking problem in my teggy

thank you very much bro's for your reply and sharing ideas. I appreciate.
i already replace the fuel filter but the problem still there. But still okay for me changing the fuel filter to a new one.
FCM; you're right. it is a carbureted engine, not fuel injected. the black smoke smells like gas. Is it also the reason why my new oil castrol(15W) turns so fast in color black oil.
Can you please explain what do you mean the message you sent me """"I would have the carorators looked at/"tuned". 94 """". Do you mean i just need to modify some parts of my integra? Or you are suggesting to bring my car on any authorized honda repair center to do the perfect timing, adjust the right idle of the engine and connect the computer box of my integra to their computer to check what's the real problem of my car????
cheers

Anyone else smell a bogus thread? I'm "Pinoy", half Filipino btw...

You probably do not need to modify anything, but get it tuned properly, a carburetor has adjustments on it to adjust the A/F ratio, because I believe your running rich I would look at tuning, [adjusting] the carbs, or have a professional, [shop] do it.
I would definitely check for any codes stored in the ECU/ECM, not sure if you can do that on a 94 Honda Integra 1.6L with carbs without a scanner, but if the ECU/ECM jumper plug is there, [pass. kick panel] you can do it with a paper clip.
Search here, there are a number of posts on how to check for codes. 94
