Default GSR with the wrong engine?

I'm looking for an Integra, and today, I looked at a '94 GSR (according to the VIN). It's been modified - lowered, 14" wheels, tower braces, different steering wheel, Del Sol seats, header, CAI, etc. But, the part that concerns me is the motor swap. It's got a B18B1. I'm not well-versed in all things Honda/Acura, but aren't GSRs supposed to have B18C1s?

Being in the Salt Belt, this car is damn near rust-free, so I could over look the missing GSR specific bits (seats, wheels, suspension), but would the B18B1 be a deal killer, for you wiser, more knowledgeable Integra folk?

Most likley the original engine blew and was replaced with a LS engine which is non vtec and a down grade for a GSR, find one with a stock B18C-1 or a swapped stock B18c5 ( Type R ) would be the only other engine that would be acceptable but much more rare and would be a bit more of course.

I'm not terribly concerned with finding a GSR. I just want an Integra. Any would do. This one is rust free, and around here, that's a big deal, to me.

Here's more to it:
He's asking $1300, not like he's saying, "Dude, it's a GSR. I want 10 Grand." "Uh, no. It's a 22 year old car with the wrong seats, wrong wheels, wrong suspension, wrong hood (it's got a carbon fiber skinned hood), it needs paint (it's primered) and it's not running right now. I'll give you $500."

If it needs paint then you'd come out WAY ahead if you bought one somewhere without salt and then drove or shipped it back. Good paint isn't cheap, and it being primed just means you'll probably have to sand the primer off. Also, a non-running beater-tier Integra isn't worth $1300.

I agree it's not worth $1300, for sure. I can paint. I can wrench. I have more time than money, for a toy like this. What's a rust-free shell worth, though?

I've cruised craigslist from cities a few hours away, and anything that's clean and runs is twice the price.

Does he know it's not the original motor?

In the condition you described, $500 maybe $800 max.

Yes, he knows it's not the original motor; not sure if he knows it's not the correct motor.

I wouldn't be trying to put this back to original, show room condition, to take to Pebble Beach or Barrett-Jackson. I just want something to hoon around in. :D

And yes, $500-800 is what I'm thinking.

If you're just looking for an integra to drive around in and don't care a bout the motor then go for it.

I do think that a gsr vin integra with out the b18c in it is always suspect. These engines just don't fail, It has probably had the living **** beaten out of it at some point in its life. If the tranny and clutch are original make sure to take it for a drive and check for slippage/grinds.

The primer is probably hiding body damage, bondo, rust, etc.

Keep in mind insuring a GSR is going to be higher than an LS. Seems silly to insure a GSR that thinks its an LS now
