grinding 4th
I was driving my car tonight and I went to shift into 4th and it started grinding as if the clutch wasn't even pushed down at all. Then I slowed down, tried it again and it grinded again.
I put it into 5th and drove to a stop sign and did a complete stop and when I started driving again and got to 4th it went in perfectly.
Does anyone know what could have caused this?

uhh when my old prelude syncro's were wearing out, it had no indication of it wearing out prior. how can you tell it will be a gradual process? What symptons will it have before your syncros start going bad? I've owned 3 honda's before, and 2 of the 3 had bad syncros before i've noticed any symptoms.
In the case of worn synchros, the problem doesn't stop. As stated above, after the car was stopped, the problem didn't continue. I'm not ruling out the possibility of synchro failure, I'm just ruling it out as a likely cause of the problem. It's a possibility that Miz101 didn't fully press in the clutch and wasn't aware of it.
Also, I've been around Honda's for quite a while and yes, mild grinding will start suddenly, but I've never seen a case of severe grinding starting suddenly due to worn synchros. If you think about it, yes it is a possibility but it's not the most logical possibility.

Believe me they will grind at certain circumstances like high revving only etc. Sometimes it wont grind when you put it in slowly (the case for my lude), and also when i've had my lude it also didnt grind when the engine's cold. So the first 5 mintues of driving my 3rd gear wont grind when i put it in. But after it warms up it'll grind.
Not trying to flame you or anything, but the most major point here is that after the vehicle ceased forward motion, the problem did not persist. This leads me to believe that it was caused by some other moving part of the transmission. I have to recommend taking the vehicle to a transmission specialist.

The second time I tried to shift into 4th I had the clutch all the way to the floor.
Yeah, I've also heard that when the synchro is starting to wear out it starts out slowly and it just gets worse.
Which is what really confused me why did it just stop the grinding after I came to a stop and started moving again.
I guess it's time for a fluid change hope that stops it.
Does anyone recommend any specific brand I should try?
Thank you for the replies.
