Got an A/C question
Hey All,
I just got ripped off at my local Acura dealership, and need to figure out what is up with my A/C. I had them install a whole new system almost - new compressor and clutch, new expansion valve, new condenser core up front. I got it back, and it blew half as cool, and made high pitched whining noises occasionally (sounds like coming from the expansion valve). I returned it to them, asked them to flush the system, and solve the issues. They returned it to me in exactly the same condition. I just drove it 8 miles in stop-and-go traffic and was not cool at any point in time. When I got to my office, I hopped out and checked the high pressure hose going from the compressor to the condenser. It wasn't even warm! As far as I know, that hose should be HOT when the A/C is working on a hot day.
Anyone got any ideas here? I spent a lot of money and got back worse than I started.

They also screwed up the power steering, by not even placing the clamp back in place on the return line, sent fluid all over, and failed to flush it out before installing a brand new pump. Honestly, I don't want to ever go back there again. I haven't gone to a mechanic since 1994, and only went because I didn't have the means to evacuate the system myself. I will figure it out, and then take it somewhere else. Done with the dealer.
Take your car back and ask to talk to the service manager. AC work usually goes to the newer guys at my shop. if they cant get an experienced mechanic to look at it ask to see the store manager
Sorry if I come across like an *** right now, I am a little "heated" over this :-\
It may be the tard didn't connect up the linkages down below after changing out the expansion valve. I will check that when I get home.

It's not like they are untrained or anything AC Jobs in Arizona are a dime a dozen and most of the time it's only about 30-60 min book time so it usually winds up going to there newer less experienced techs while the other techs more qualified to work on bigger jobs take care of those. Hell when I was in the army our "AC class" was like 8 hours it's pretty easy work when it comes down to it. I would be upset in your position though its getting hot here and not having AC out in the desert is almost unbearable.
wtf is wrong with people these days?
take it back. tell them this is unfuckingacceptable. because it is. they're supposed to be professionals. it doesn't matter who does the work. the shop, as a unit, signs off on that work. so they need to oversee it

I have to agree with el crapitan, you need to take it back to them and have it done properly, or at the very least get your money back.
You are correct, the high side line should be hot, [very hot] and the low side line should be cold, [very cold] anytime the A/C is running. 94
