Default Glasspack?

I just stuck my Apex'i N1 on, and man is that thing loud. You can hear my car from a mile away, I went into a muffler shop and the guy recommended a glass pack. What is this? Will it hinder my performance in any way? Does it make your car waaaay quiter? Thanks

glass fibers used to baffle the exhaust. I'm sure there's better stuff out there now.

This is muscle car era technology. I always heard of people putting them on to make exhausts louder,
but it's all relative.

"Glass pack" or "resonator" .... both are essentially the same. It's a larger diameter pipe with a straight-thru core that is surrounded by some sound-absorbing material, or even just baffles. The end result is some deadening of sound with minimal effect on air flow. Generally it's about 24" long and is positioned a little ways after the cat. You can actually put one anywhere you want along the b-pipe, really, and you can have more than one as well. Any good muffler shop can supply and install them.

I always thought glasspacks made your car sound pipe-y-er, my V8 friends would use them in thier big *** Broncos or Mustangs to get that absurd rumble. Sound deadining is questionable, but I guess their may be different applications.

i put a glass pack on today at the muffler shop. they cut my nice SS piping to put this resonator on its like 18" or somewhere around there. but yah it really quieted my exhuast down. the only bad thing is that the muffler shop angled the B pipe downwards and now my car scraps everywhere.

No no no! Do not get glasspacks! They wear down over time, and, will need to be replaced.

Besides, you don't drive a mustang or camero. Glasspacks were meant for those cars. If you can't make it quiet with a silencer, you should really consider a different muffler, like an RSR muffler. They are extremely quiet! You can probably find one used on The PartsTrader.com.
